Why don't new cameras smell new? I just got a new Canon. I'd been working in the yard all day laying sod, throwing mulch, and doing grunt work. My camera arrived around 2PM in the mail but i was so filthy I patiently set it aside.

Hours later I open the box and there is my new toy. Interestingly, when I opened the package there was no "new" smell. I even held it up to my nose and whiffed it like a drug dog searching suitcases in Columbia. Nothing. Not a trace of any kind of smell at all.

Don't take any of this too seriously, it just struck me as funny. Plus I have nothing to do while I wait for my new battery to charge.

I bet the 1DX smells new...I should have spent more money.

Better than the used camera I got from ebay that smelled of cigarette smoke. The seller swore no one had been around it smoking and offered to take it back. I kept it in a double box so that the baking soda would not get on it and then out in the fresh air....finally got it to no smell at all

Be careful what you wish for.

Wild guess, but maybe it's because camera makers don't want blind folks to get their cameras confused with their new cars...?

I KNEW one of you would have the answer! Studies show that cameras and new cars are two of the most commonly purchased items of the visually impaired. I read it on the internet, so it can't be wrong.

They used to have that new camera smell back in the old days. But ever since the 'Save the Earth' movement came along, all those ozone depleting, off-gassing VOCs have been reduced or eliminated.

When I got my Canon 80D (and lenses) I think the only one of my senses that wasnt working was smell; I think vision and touch strongly took over...
Sensory overload, I hadn't even considered that. Right now all I can do is wait for that danged batter to charge. I have one blinking light telling me it's barely charged right now. I can hold it, but I can't use it yet. Oh the humanity!

They took all the fun out of everything. What's the point of living if you can't enjoy it? :)

I got lucky when mine came in... it got here late in the afternoon and not long afterwards I had a viewing/funeral to go to, so I had some time to kill while the battery was charging at home.

Pardon the pun - not really intentional.
