Worth it to upgrade to X100T and get lens conversions?

Hello, I am a college student doing street photography on the side for stress relief. College tuition in NYC near Wall Street is no joke so I find doing photography some type of therapy.

I currently or won't be the owner of an Olympus M10ii after I sell it and decided to settle for the Fuji X100 (Original one). I shoot/shot with a 12-40mm f2.8 lens which in x2 crop factor, 24-80mm f"5.6".

My questions are:

1) Would the Fuji X100T be worth an upgrade from the X100? I tend to walk fast and snap whatever is interesting and having a faster autofocus will be nice. Bought the X100 for around 300 bucks and found refurb'd X100Ts for around 800 bucks from reputable store sellers. May upgrade most likely sometime in the Fall 2017.

2) Or should I save those 500 bucks and get the Wide Angle and Telephoto Lens conversion? 35mm focal length seems a bit too zoomed in for me and I feel that if I go to areas such as graffiti tunnels, having a 28mm would allow me to capture the sides of the wall at a closer range. But at the same time, by having a few extra mm in the opposite direction, would it be worth an extra 200 bucks on ebay?

I normally shoot on a 50mm focal length. Switching from 50 to 35 may seem a bit wide to me and I will be taking a Portrait course at the International Center of Photography School. Would it be a wise choice to shell out another 200 bucks or so for the a 50mm?

3)
Or should I sell the X100, don't buy the telephoto, buy the wide angle, and spend a little extra for a refurb/used X100T?

I appreciate all the responses and thanks!

Aside from GAS, the reasons to upgrade cameras are usually:

1. Your current camera is getting in the way of the type of photography you want to do. That means slow operation, slow AF, small buffer, desire for different focal lengths, etc.

2. The new camera has features and capabilities you want.

If your X100 is too slow now, assuming its not your technique, then upgrading to the X100T would be the way to go. It will get you other features as well, but bear in mind if you shoot people JPGs at high ISOs, the X100T has heavy noise reduction over 1600 which can't be turned off.

Upgrading will, at the very least, get rid of that awkward location of AF-S in the three way toggle.

I am wondering whether you should consider an XPro1 instead. It has the same ergonomics as the X100 series and the benefit of taking any lens including old manual 50mm lenses that are a dime a dozen and super inexpensive. Look at the Angry Photographer utube channel for endless advice on old cheap manual screw mount lenses. I have bought a bunch from ebay on his recommendation and they are around 50-70 bucks each. The XPro1 is a magnificent camera and a real keeper. Autofocus is also sluggish by modern standards but its actually fine, it really is.

Pro1 won't give him the fast AF he desires, especially in low light.

i came from micro 4/3, you lose noticible af speeds, no IbIs to help, not that im a fan of IbIS, but didnt look back, first Apsc was Ricoh Gr, then Xpro 2, You may be restricting youself somewhat with the x100T or F because of your interest in the lens conversion options, How bout this , X70, you have Apsc, then ease into the xt-20(xt2 light), and get some lenses? But you may be set on x100T/F, difficult decision

Hello all, I appreciate all the responses.

I've been shooting fairly recent, started out with a film camera + 50mm lens back in Sept 2016 and it wasn't until Jan 2017 where I started doing digital. However, I kept on buying and selling so many camera bodies and lenses to a point where after the X100 and another body, I am cutting off my account to sites so I can rid of my GAS.

I do like the X-T20 for its nice specs and design and the Xpro1 for its cheaper price but buying lenses are going to be another story, which I am trying to deviate myself from due to GAS. I understand I will make a trade-off when using X100 series but its well worth the make.

Now I do understand that it seems silly to get a 28mm and 50mm on 35mm equiv. converter lens but after calculating the costs, X100 (340) + 28mm (215) + 50mm (Lets say 200 since i found one for 195 but I missed out on it), it will be a total of 755 bucks. Not bad of a price for the APS-C x1.5 crop factor in the X100 and I've read reviews saying the Bayer sensor may be "better" than the X-Trans. The f2 multiply by the 1.5 crop factor will give a bokeh similar to f3, can live with that since the 12-40mm f2.8 I shoot with ends up being similar to a f5.6 in terms of blur, which defeated the purpose of shelling out quite some money for a "pro" lens on the Micro 4/3.

That cost will be less than the X-T20 and probably be higher than the XPro1, depending on the lens price that is not factored in.

A camera that I can sort of compare to the X100 is the Canon 7D. Sure it was a beast in terms of autofocus and fps rate but its cost of 400$ and lens choices are expensive, it'll be similar cost to the X100 with the 2 lens converters; the 7D has a x1.6 crop factor and a higher % chance of being clocked in the face when taking photos of people on the street.

@borderplatz, sorry, did not mean to reply just to you, but this post is for everyone, I'm new to this forum haha.

I personally wouldn't mess with the tiny sensor in the X30. Had Fuji released an X40 with a 1" sensor I wouldn't have bought the G7X m2.

Starting to feel you guys either cannot read or simply read the title and posted whatever you felt like writing.

I even bolded the questions in the first post. Ik I said I appreciate all responses but this is just becoming ridiculous now.

My main concern involves Fuji X100, X100T and the wide/telephoto conversion, nothing else.

Your decision is wider focal length vs newer and faster X100. Decide which is more important to you.

Don't be too hung up about equipment. Some of the other suggestions would probably do what you described at a similar cost.

Anyway, my first step on the Fuji path was an X100T and I still use it extensively despite having now abandoned my Canon gear and bought the XT1 and 2. It is a great camera with fast AF and a super lens. Never having owned the X100 I cannot judge whether it is worth the upgrade, but as a camera it is great.

To be quite honest, if I were you I would stick to what you have got until its limitations are so clear that you cannot find ways around them anymore. That's the time to upgrade.

Then get the conversion lenses.

For street, especially if you are using hyperfocal focus distances, etc, there is nothing wrong with the X100.

Get the conversion lenses to experiment with the other two classic street focal lengths.

The X100T won't help you take better street photos.

Owning the conversion lenses means you can just update the body in the future. They will never go out of style.
