Hello - I have a D750 and 2 flashes. I can get the OCF (SB910) to go off but everything I have read says I need to have the pop up flash on my camera up. Well I want to use the SB700 on my camera instead of using the pop up but I can't get that set up to work. How can I make that work? I also have Phottix triggers but not sure that I need to? Little lost! Thank you in advance.

The back of each flash has a setting for remote or master. The on-camera flash would be set to master (this could be either flash, 700 or 910). The OCF would be set to remote. The controls will be on the "master" flash.

I believe the actual requirement is that there has to be an active CLS controller on your camera. This can be

1. The camera's own flash (if the hot shoe is empty, and the camera is capable of acting as a CLS commander).

2. A SU-800 flash commander.

3. A hot shoe flash that has the ability to act as a CLS commander.

In case #3, I'm not sure if you can set up things from the camera body's menus, or if you need to go into the menus of the hot shoe flash itself.

Nikon's site confirms that the SB-910 and SB-700 each support Commander and Remote operation – so what you want to do should be possible.

I tried that but couldn't get either to work. I must be doing something stupid in the settings of the camera? E3 menu - I have set to commander mode and group a, channel 1 and same for the 2 flashes.

They shouldn't both be set to Commander mode. The one on the camera should be set to Commander mode and the other should be set to Remote mote.

Shot in the dark here:

Try hooking up your SB-700, then go into your custom menu settings (Menu => Custom Settings menu => e => e3). Usually this controls your in-camera flash but when you hook up an external flash it changes to control the connected flash. You may have to go back into your menus and set it up so that the SB-900 is on the same channel and the proper group as the SB-700. If you want to use the SB-700 as a commander only you'd want to set it up there as well.

I hope this helps a bit.

*Edit* Nevermind...read the other post and saw you already did this...
