Thanks for sharing the link !

I've been watching the progress in the prerelease, and I've just installed the official version. They're very active these days and have done an amazing work.

I already used RawTherapy to preprocess my files from an IR converted camera. Still postprocessing with DXO yet.

I'll have to give it a try for Pixel Shift too :)

Best regards, Fred

Thanks for all the hard work. I've been using this program for more than 2 years now. :-)

Hi,

This may be of interest to some of you, there's an article about pixelshift and RawTherapee 5.1.
It's interesting, but it confirms what we know already - Adobe don't do motion correction and RT does , and seems to do it better than Pentax's own tools - which exhibit the same chequerboard pattern the article calls out in Lightroom when they fail to correct.
There is no need to do what he did and shoot a non PS, PS without MC and PS with MC, because you can take a PS image and opt to turn MC on or off in post, or produce a non PS image with it.

My main gripe with RT is it can do so much that working out how to use it is a massive challenge. On one side I'm in awe of what people have been able to do to create it, and on the other I find the user interface maddening.

That's true. And it's really good that you mention this, because some people don't seem to know it :)

That's the beauty & annoyance of RawTherapee. You have too many options to pick from.

I have a thread over on Pentax Forums that kind of shows you how to use RawTherapee. I've also created processing profiles for each ISO that give you a decent start with the image you want to work on. You basically take it from there as far as how much you want to post process your image. I'm constantly playing with RawTherapee so I update the processing profiles as I discover new ways of getting the best IQ out of it. :-)

Thank you very much for sharing all this !

A lot to read, and to try, but that seems worth it...

Can't wait for the 5.2 for automatic pixelshift detection (*) :)

Best Regards, Fred

(*) : Maybe a quick guess between the actual file size, and the common file size of the camera model, would be enough to trigger the PixelShift process only on the big files, without digging in the EXIF data ? Dirty, but faster ? ;)

I can tell you that automatic detection of pixel shift files is on our todo list. Most likely it will only be automatic detection, not automatic applying pixel shift processing, because rt has other mechanisms for that (applying user defined profiles based on exif data)

Thanks for the confirmation Ingo and for all the work done!

I'll have to explore the user defined profiles too I guess...

Best regards, Fred

PS:

Is there something on the roadmap to have different views (cropping/processing) of the same RAW file? I've been spoiled by Bibble/Aftershot and DXO that I find it difficult yet without this option in RT (or I haven't search enough to find the option?). Storing all the versions of the same picture in one xml file is so convenient :)

It's a flag in the Maker note field of the EXIF (0x0243 is the field inside maker note), so shouldn't be hard to add.
