It's been a while since I spend a lot of time here.

I just want to share some street photographs taken using Panasonic GX8 while I was travelling to Japan last month.

Lately I experimented with using shutter priority instead of aperture priority on my GX8 to prevent motion blur and so far it worked.

Most of the pictures(if not all of them) are taken using 12-35mm f/2.8 and electronic shutter. Minimal post processing using Lightroom.

Enjoy!

Very nice set. Love the first one. Thanks for sharing.

Can the GX8 adjust ISO for proper exposure in manual mode so that you can set aperture and speed and the camera sets ISO? I think some cameras call it TAV mode.

I have a GX8 so I should know this but I'm still learning all the features.

Good pictures! Thanks for sharing!

GX8 renders beautifully. I like it much more than any of the 16MP sensors, or the Pen-F. So 3-dimensional! I wish a smaller, cheaper version would come with the same sensor and image processing algorithm!

Shmn, Loga, Corkcampbell, thank you all for the kind comments on my pictures!

Shmn, the GX8 does have the option to operate on auto ISO when shooting in manual mode. This makes it really handy if you want to shoot on a certain aperture and a certain shutter speed constantly. I use it frequently alongside aperture priority and shutter priority.

Loga, I agree with how the GX8 produces such natural looking images. I don't shoot a whole lot of JPEG, but the RAW files do have that "color" and "look" that I really like. Some colors like blue and red have the ability to "pop" and make the photographs almost 3D-like. Let's hope the successor of the GX85 will have the same "look" but in smaller package.

Once again thank you guys!

Nice photos.

I've never tried doing Street Photography but would like to try.

If I may ask, what separates a common snapshot to making a good street photograph?

Maybe, a few tips to get me started?

Thank you.

Hung Low thank you for the kind comment.

I am not really an expert of street photography yet, but for my personal preference, a good street photograph needs to have at least these aspects:

- Strong, eye catching subjects. Facial expression and/or body language(or the lack of either/both) is what I am looking for. Candid or posed, your call.

- Good composition. Basically you want to make the subject stand out, but you also want a hint of the environment to support the subject, hence try to balance the two in your composition.

- Movement. Or lack of movement. Depending on what you are after, this aspect might improve the picture's story-telling ability.

- Appropriate light condition. Play with lights and shadows, and find light conditions that really grab your attention.

Ultimately, there is no real rule here, what I mentioned above are just guidelines. Experiment with what works well for you and hopefully you will find your ideal criteria for street photography.

To get you started, I recommend checking out some well-known street photographs on the internet, social media, Instagram, Youtube and try to emulate the photos that you like when you go out and starting to shoot street photographs.

Hope this helps! Good luck!
