I have a Sony RX100 III which I among other things use to shoot video.

The format options are either AVCHD or XAVC S which I understand is the higher quality option.

Everything looks smooth and great on the cameras lcd but when I import it to my Macbook Pro (2016) I get some problems.

Just playback in VLC looks fine, can't tell if it's really the way it's supposed to be but it's alright.

However when i try to edit in iMovie it's like the framerate drops a lot. I've heard that iMovie sometimes adjusts the whole project to the lowest framerate, but i've tried creating new projects and isolating the 50 p footage to exclude that possibility so I really don't know what causes this issue. The same result after exporting the project as well. Maybe it doesn't have to do with the framerate, just compability issues?

Anyway kinda ruins the camera for me.

The computer is the latest macbook pro and latest OS, iMovie etc etc, so I feel like it should be able to handle it.

Would really appreciate if someone could clear this up for me

Just a suggestion but you might get a bigger response if you post this under the forum of Mac Talk.

Well I am sure it isn't the camera's fault...Works fine on my computer using MPC-HC x64 player. It will be a compatibility issue and the other suggestion from Mina is probably the best option.

It sounds very strange to me. I've been using the RX100IV for a couple of months now, with iMovie, and the results are outstanding. Our c-cam is a mk III, which I haven't used yet, but shouldn't pose any problem, I hope.

It does happen to me that, after adding and mucking around on the editing line for a while, the footage starts to stutter, sometimes to the point of becoming tiresome, but after exporting it the file plays flawlessly. Maybe it's this that you're seeing?

This is my latest product:

It's in Spanish, but most of the video is just music and images, so it should be fine as an example. A-cam is RX100IV, B-cam is A77II. Fully edited in iMovie, with a MacBook Pro Retina 2015 13", top of the line.
