Hi Greg,

I have the 5600 HS(D) which I believe is still the latest out there. I will be surprised if Minolta comes out with a replacement for this.

Best regards,

José

I was refering to the unit you have, the 5600HS (D). I am new to Minolta and was not usre if this unit had been released. I thank you for being so kind as to let me know they are out.

Are you happy with this flash?

I am having to get to know the Minolta equipment. Have not owned Minolta for years, last was the SRT101, it was a 35mm, one of my first.

Thanks very much for the info and patience with me

Hi Greg,

You'll love the 5600 HS (D), albeit heavy. It is very powerful. Also, you might want to order an Stofen Omnibounce (diffuser), which retails for about US $ 20 (I think). Here's a couple of examples of shots taken with Maxxum 7, 5600 HS(D) and Omnibounce.

Here at Minolta we love our Maxxums and Dimages but that does not mean we give you biased advice. Playing devil's advocate here, have you thought about the 828 and using the Poor Man's IS strategy? Read this article:

I am from the Sony forum and know all to well what the 828 is touted to be. I know that people can be loyal to their hardware. I too have been guilty. I am very interested in the A1. So much so I have ordered it and all the accessories I can get my hand on.

I like your images with the 5600, I will be happy if it as powerful as you say as I like to bounce where possible.

5600 has a GN of 56m at 85mm focal length.

Like Dynax 7, A1 can do High Speed Sync, Wireless with it. Also, it allows manual power control and zoom, multi-burst and its very powerful (IMO). With fresh batt loaded, it recharge almost instantly.

Some of the important features to me are 1) the LCD display at the back, it always compute and display the minimum and maximum operating distance for my reference. 2) Head tilting, its so flexible and convenient for me to control over the lighting. 3) Wireless TTL, easy setup and ready to be use anytime!!

I always carry mine around even when I've to leave some lens at home to make room for it.

Cheers!

Something I forgot.. the multi test burst allows me to visually inspect the shadows and lighting of the subject before the actual shots.

I Luv this flash!

Its almost as powerful as the 5600(D) and has the same feature set too. Works with the D7xx Series and has wireless too.

Hope you enjoy the 5600(D)!!!

I had one that I just sold. Used it with my 7Hi (which I also just sold). It fit "okay" on the 7Hi, but it was rather large. I'd really like to see the new 2500HS (now that one really IS new) that Minolta just announced along with the A1. That one seems to be specially made for the A1, and is more compact in design. K.

Or does any cheap adaptor exist that gives a tripod mount for the flash ?

Regards

HAL

MRHAL,

My 5600 comes with a plastic foot (MS-2) which has a tripod mount in the bottom. You can mount the flash on the tripod through the MS-2. If you don't use a tripod, the foot can let you stand the flash upright on any flat surface.
