Today's "Throwback Thursday" article inspired me to crack open my gigantic 160,000+ image Lightroom archive catalog, and filter for the Nikon D70.

Lo and behold, some of my all-time favorite landscape images were created with that camera, even thirteen years and NINE cameras later...

Does anybody else have photos from this classic camera that are still good enough to be in their portfolio today?

I'm looking at my office wall where I have 8x10's taken with D600, D7000, and D70s. Nobody can tell the difference, I only know because I remember which I used.

Nice images...liked the camera, can even say a Greek Orthodox priest convinced me to buy it...okay so he was my friend and a photographer too, unfortunately never got to use it as much as I would've liked, but did use if for some newspaper, product and some personal work.

I don't have a 'portfolio'. just a couple of hard drives with a load of unsorted images going back to 2005 or so. These shots were taken on my first day out with my first DSLR - a D70s, hope that's OK.

So far so un-exciting. But the "Wow!" moment was when I spotted the ladybird in this one.. even at 'original size', you'll have to zoom in.

Beautiful images, proving once again that it is the shooter, not the camera, that yields great work.

These are very well captured! I swear, I'm getting convinced (possibly just nostalgic) that the Nikons of a few generations ago gave me more attractive images. A few from my "old" 300S:

Would be great to see Nikon using a ad campaign like "recommended by Greek Orthodox Priests"! Or insert your favorite faith: "Budda Says", Pope's recommend", etc. They could use some divine help..

Either way, MUCH better ad campaign than Ashton Kutcher!!!

You know, I've always loved the way Nikon renders that particular purple, especially the older cameras like the D70/s. Very accurate and wow you sure found a big patch of it!

I don't think my pictures compare with yours, but some of my personal favorites were shot with my D70. If someone hadn't done me the "favor" of kicking in my back door and stealing it, I might still be shooting my D70 today (instead of upgrading to the D7000).

So here are some of my old shots I really like. Hope you do too.

This last one was one of the first shots I ever took with the D70.

Here are a few taken in Shannon Springs Park in Chickasha Oklahoma during the Festival of Light in December with the D50-my first DSLR. The geese shot was with the Nikon 75-150 Series E lens. Since it is a manual focus lens, there was no AF or metering. I saw them overhead, quickly guessed at a shutter and f stop, and got a good JPEG.

I know focus off on this one - but It don't matter.

I loved the warm colors on the D70 - compared with my D7000 with even after fine tune adjustments still can't capture anything in focus with certainty.

This landscape shot is gorgeous! I can tell it was the type of day outdoors that makes me thrilled to be alive... :-)

I remember those days, when memory was so expensive that you shot JPG because it wasn't practical to shoot more than a few NEF files at a time. I think I paid almost 10x more for a 1GB CF card than I've recently paid for a 32GB card... Wow...

Also, love the compatibility with old lenses, it has been one of the nostalgic reasons I stuck with Nikon through their "dark days" of lagging on joining the full-frame fray. I hope that in the days to come of Nikon FX mirrorless, full compatibility is maintained without much hassle. :-)

These are very well captured! Was it the D70 that some Nikon shooters were bashing here on DPR a few years ago? I seem to remember reading disparaging remarks about this particular camera. From what I have seen, this is one solid cam.
