Leica seems well supported by ACDSee Pro and Ultimate 10. I know they open DNG files converted by Lightroom and the free Adobe conversion utility like a champ (Pro 6 did too)

Hmm! I'm in over my head on this one. Few software publishers ever seem to stop supporting cameras once they start. At least, not that I ever heard of.

I think you ought to get ACDSee tech support involved. That would prevent a lot of guessing on our part.

You can reach them here:

I have ACDsee Ultimate 10 and can confirm that Leica Q DNG files do not open in the develop module. Very Odd. Contact ACDsee like Glen suggested.

In all fairness to them, X-Trans requires a different demosaicing algorithm, and that's a lot of work to implement - and X-Trans in particular seems to be a bit of a challenge, at least given the dismal results most software manufacturers put out intially ;)

Adding a different camera using a standard Bayer CFA is a whole lot easier...

to tell you the truth, i waited something like three years or more before acdsee finally got round to offering support for my everyday camera, the fuji xpro1 and the xtrans files, so i can confirm that no matter how much one asks or pleads for help, they are just not interested.

just about the only thing that adobe do better than acdsee for my needs is they seem to offer new camera support very very quickly. acdsee, you need to quicken up, this has been going on for far too long for some of us.

Well, I've not had much problem with ACDSee Tech support, though I will admit it took them a VERY long time to support X-trans. (I'm an m43s guy so my interest in X-Trans is more theoretical than practical).

But in general, ACDSee releases the new version around late September of the year, and usually releases what I call an "errors and omissions" update in December to fix any newly discovered problems. Then a support update in late spring or early summer. I don't think that's all that different from other software publishers.

All of these updates usually include new camera support. When a new camera gets supported mostly depends on when in the year, it gets released. I have no doubt Adobe gets special treatment from the manufacturers. I bet Adobe developers get fruit baskets from the manufacturers at Christmas! (If they don't, the manufacturers should start!)

Justifiably so, IMO. After all, that free Adobe dng conversion utility is probably a huge help to the manufacturers if they need to change the file formats. Keeping Adobe happy is probably important to them.

Smaller companies, with smaller revenue streams, have to be more selective in terms of how they spend their resources. And that includes camera support, I suspect. That is an economic fact of life that, as near as I can tell, can not be avoided.
