I'm not a bird watcher; it's not what I do. But my wife keeps pressing me to try to capture photos of birds on our bird feeder, if nothing else. The other day, I finally decided to try. It's not exciting stuff; it was slow going, and I didn't catch much. And yet, this one photo was enough to make we want to try again!

Great photography is about depth of feeling, not depth of field.

Solution, tell your wife you need the 500mm prime or the 600mm to do it properly ...let her search for the prices and see if she still wants you to take the feeder shots 😁😃😉, then say to her you also need an customised flash setup to make it all perfect.

Have fun 😃😅😆😀😁😉👍👍

My other half also wants me to take pics of the birds on our feeder but, as the light in our garden is poor and I dislike feeder shots I go to my local reserve to enjoy the peace and quiet.........and the wildlife too.

The D500 and 200-500vr is a great combination for birding, enjoy!

realgeek.......I agree with you, I dislike feeder shots very much too, I prefer to shoot birds in the natural wildlife, but it takes more "know how " as a bird on a feeder is just an stationery motive.......
