Hey folks,

Loving my new D500, and looking to get a grip for it. Looking to use an EL-15 in the grip, as those are the batteries I have.

1 - are the aftermarket grips good / fully featured? if so, which ones?
2 - Do they have that fn button near the shutter?

Or is it really no comparison, and I should just cough up the 600 CAD for the Nikon grip?

Thanks!

There are a few after market grips, i have used the meike grip good quality and works a treat zero problems saved a few hundred quid on the Nikon, put the money to good glass as a saving. There are some negative comments folk like to distribute about third party grips, mostly nonsense coming from folk that don't have them or like to justify themselves in buying only Nikon. My advice buy the pixel or meike grip, like i have said had mine several months with no problems works a treat at fraction of the cost.

Duplicating a question I asked on the thread on the DSTE version of the grip, does the Meike grip joystick fully duplicate the programmable functionality one has on the camera joystick? If you have the camera joystick "Press" assigned to AF-ON+AF area, does the grip joystick engage AF + AF-mode in the same way when pressed? Does it on a Nikon grip?

I have had the Nikon grip for a few months and it's great, pricey but worth it.

I have put a grip on 5 of my dslrs, nikon every time and never a problem.

Sure, they are expensive but you know they will last.
+1 always bought genuine ones.....not an single problem.

Yes, because you *know* it will work as advertised, barring a defect, in which case it will be replaced
