Long lag with X-Pro2 when back button focusing in ERF

I just got an X-Pro2 (with the 23mm/2 lens) and I'm noticing some strange lag when shooting. I have it configured as follows:

* Manual focus

* Manual exposure (aperature, shutter speed and ISO)

* Instant AF set to AF-C

I'm noticing two sources of lag:

1. When back button focusing (AF-L is held down), there's a lag when half-pressing the shutter as it locks focus. Is there anyway to disable this? I don't want the focus to be locked while back button focusing, regardless of if the shutter is half-pressed or not... This makes AF-C via back-button focusing a lot slower than AF-C mode, which makes back button focusing pretty unusable.

2. Using the ERF while its zoomed in to the focus point, there's a lag when the shutter gets half-pressed. Strangely, this lag doesn't seem to happen (or is much shorter) when the ERF is displaying the full frame or when using the OVF or EVF.

Basically, I'd like a shutter half press to do absolutely nothing when in using manual focus and manual exposure. Are there any other settings I need to configure?

It is not the ERF nor the use of the back button which causes a delay, but the zoomed-in state of the EVF. When the EVF (also when it's projected into the ERF) displays the full image, there is a normal delay, when it's digitally zoomed there will be a substantially longer delay. Another possibly related effect is that the histogram will always be based on the image section displayed in the ERF. But I suppose the delay is not caused by exposure measurements wich have to be made again for the complete image, as locking exposure does not diminish the delay, it seems more related to the autofocus.

I believe it's mentioned somewhere in the manual by the way, but I cannot recall where.

Apparently it is a frequently asked question . I found it quite puzzling by the way, when I first noticed it. I hope it can somehow be fixed, but I suppose if there would have been an easy solution, Fuji's engineers would have already implemented is (or they intentionally keep some stuff back to be able to offer something in periods of Kaizen-block ;-))

Fuji's answer states 'camera automatically stops the live view at a short time period to carry out AE when the shutter button is pressed halfway' suggesting it would not have to stop when using completely manual settings or locking AE, but I think it still has a delay in those cases.... maybe this might be fixed then.

Huh, that's strange, especially since my exposure is set manually, so what does it even need to calculate?

As I mentioned in my previous post that is exactly what I cannot understand either, maybe someone at Fuji might be able to explain.

I experienced the same lag with my X-Pro 2. I couldn't get a workaround to reduce the lag. Oddly enough, if you take a few shots right after a firmware update, the lag disappears for a few shots.

I contacted Fuji with the issue and asked if their engineers could take a look at the issue. They did not reply with a way cut down the lag. They said they would pass the issue forward. I didn't get a lot of feedbacks when I posted the issue in the forum, but i think back button or instant AF with AF-C is probably not a common implantation for most people. The lag is definitely there though.

I purchased an X-T2 after and it did not have this lag. I have then sold the X-T2. I am more of an optical viewfinder guy... Let me know if you have a solution. If so, I will jump right back onto the X-Pro2 bandwagon.
