Anyone Disappointed After Upgrading to Full Frame?

not sure where you seeing those obscene camera body prices at, i just checked an australian vendor on ebay, the 6d vs. d610 are both claimed to be in stock in sydney, and they list within $50 or so of each other:

Both of these seem to be grey market/imported from Hong Kong. It is common for ebay sellers to import from Hong Kong keep stock in Sydney but the fact is they originated from Hong Kong. Canon Australia and Nikon Australia will not repair these and I don't want to be at the mercy of the third party repairers.

I'm looking at buying from Harvey Norman.

6D $1645 after cashback

D750 $2595

D610 $2095

Normally 6D and D610 are fairly close in price but Canon cashback is making a difference. Canon also has double cashback offer where if I spend over on $200 on lens I would get extra $200 cashback this makes 40mm 2.8 STM basically for $17!

grey market is a big concern here in america, because with canon at least we actually have a couple of canon factory service centers, and they are pretty good... i really miss that, having gone with sony, where it's all third-party support.

america does tend to get some better support, tamron for instance gives us a 6-year warranty on their lenses.

are there any canon factory service centers in australia? https://www.canon.com.au/support/service-centres

factor in the 40/2.8, and you'd come out ahead! not sure if that mail-order place has the same cash-back offers.

that 40/2.8 is on my short list as well, i just got an adapter for it.

Guess you forgot about all that other stuff like pricing, warranties, availability, lenses, etc., in your nonsensical ranting and raving, huh?

Ok I tried to read through 86 posts on this subject.

so the conclusion is Nikon d750 over canon 6d for full frame? Maybe a used Sony like one poster but I need autofocus not manual lenses.

i just dumped my beloved but aged and broken canon 20d and lenses. Picked up m4/3 pano gx7 and do like pictures in good light but not focus and not form factor. Camera too small for my large frame!

So toying with going to full frame over om-d m5ii? The new gh5 and m1ii are bit $$ for 4/3?

Not sure except not back to canon and 80d.

a large number of which are not informative

sure d750 is generally better. It is also more expensive. You can look at charts and graphs. Or this............

you can even download the RAWs to go crazy with. the 6d probably has the "worst" sensor of this bunch but it is far from "junk"
Maybe a used Sony like one poster but I need autofocus not manual lenses.
there are Sony AF lenses but they are typically more expensive. You can get decent AF with most Canon and Sony A lenses on the a7ii/rii

ig you want a larger camera then you could add a grip or just look at a bigger camera. A shop would be helpful here. I cannot tell you what size jacket you wear or fit you prefer
So toying with going to full frame over om-d m5ii?
your call. You have options
The new gh5 and m1ii are bit $$ for 4/3?
yes but they are built for video(gh5) and speed(em1ii)
Not sure except not back to canon and 80d.
you disliked 80d? why?

Not disliked, but want something different. Either smaller or bigger. 6d seemed t0o big and clunky

That is one thing we agree on. 40 2.8 is the only lens I've bought twice. Selling it was a huge mistake. It works brilliantly on my A7II and is my only prime at the moment.
you saying that awhile back was one of the reasons that i started looking at the 40/2.8.

i won't have the same level of af capability with it on the a7r, but i'd be happy even using mf for landscape stuff.

You and I are probably not defining "performance" the same. It's a 20% improvement in ISO number, not what I'd call performance.

Going from ISO 100 to ISO 120 is a lot different than going from ISO 6400 to ISO 6420. The first one is a 20% improvement. The second is not. These are all relative, and the percent I listed was the ISO number across several years. The performance improvement decreases--diminishing returns.
You specifically mentioned a 20 to 25% improvement. Where is this 6420 thing coming from?

I get it though. I only just registered this account, so I must be an ignorant newbie who doesn't know anything, right?

Please value my opinion as you would for any other stranger. That means you think before you reply and reread things you're not sure about, even in your own earlier replies.

That's 20-25% from start to finish of the 5 year period, with a relatively constant increase in ISO number at the same pace.

I'm not not valuing your opinion: I even said that the disagreement is likely due to semantics or different interpretations of 'improvement' in a very respectful tone.

I never called you (or even implied) that you were an 'ignorant newbie who just registered the account.' I didn't even know you just registered. That statement leads implies that you may just be insecure. That's made up in your head and nothing to do with me.

I'd recommend you do the same with your advice.

The 6D is a fine camera, I have researched it for a while and ended up with a Sony A7 for bulk reduction.

The 6D has some great things about it. The IQ often has been debated even better than the 5DIII and the center AF point makes it an excellent low light shooter.

Starting with the 50 STM makes good sense. Canon for not so long ago released a 35 with IS so the non-IS model might be worth checking out adding and maybe go primes only?

As you will find out lattitude in post is much bigger than with crop sensor, also color accuracy at higher iso is pretty good (useable).

Have fun with your new gear and show us some pics :)

I really enjoy mine. It is a simple straight forward nice camera
