The last time I was on here in June, I was having some real or imagined difficulties with FZ1 pics I was taking. So, I took it on vacation with me -- an extensive 5700 mile jaunt to many of America's most beautiful places. I have posted one in this thread. Many more will be posted on my Pbase gallery site over the next few days, including Grand Canyon, Mesa Verde, Durango steam train, and The Black Hills, and places between. Now I am VERY happy with my FZ1. It perfomed flawlessly

What a gorgeous photo! Be sure and post the link to your album when you get the rest uploaded!

Did you use any filters - UV, polarizing, etc.?

If a polarizer was not used, using one might have help, if the angle was right, to cut out some of that blue haze. Other than that, great photo.

Lovely pic. I sure get great results with my FZ1, and look forward to seeing more of your trip pics.

We're going to Cape Cod in September, I'm dying to try my FZ1 on a whale watch cruise!

I took many pictures of the Grand Canyon this spring and although it was cloudy when I was there , my pictures are nowhere near that pretty.

Are they pretty much right from the camera or have you done a lot of editing to them? It looks as if the FZ1 is the camera for me.
Is there any chance I could take pictures anywhere near that Beautiful?
Thanks for posting those pretty pics
Gene
I am now adding pics to my PBase album, and here are the first
bunch. Many more to follow.

My problems to begin with, back in June, I think were mostly
imagined. Once I got out "in the wild" and started snapping photos,
I saw what this camera can really do, and I am happy.

Just trying to learn

Anyone can take pictures like these, if you have the right kind of light and weather to do it. And you can do it with any camera, even though the FZ1 makes it easy. The one thing I learned long ago, and it's a principal that lots of photographers overlook, is to frame your photos if possible. If you will notice, I have framed most of the photos on one, two, or three sides with trees and/or foliage. Look at the panorama, and you can see how lack of such framing makes it less interesting. The truth is that I had the pano framed but the pics at both ends were crooked, and didn't stitich properly, so I left them off.

I did no editing to most of the pics except an occasional tweaking of the brightness and/or contrast. No filters or attachments were used on the camera.

And thanks for your kind comments. Keep an eye on my PBase albums and you will see many more pics from this same trip as I add them.

Nice pictures! I'm going to Yellowstone/ Grand Teton in September... but the Grand Canyon was our other possible destination. Maybe next year?

I am sure you know much more about photography than me. But there is somthing about the color in those pictures than really appeals to me. Also I think that the IS would benefit my shakey hands.
Thanks again Gene

on this site and on the Olympus forum. I am also the happy owner of a C2100UZ which I will never sell.

Even though you seemed to be having problems in the beginning I still purchased the FZ1 - for the lens, the 12X zoom and the IS and because it was really an easy P&S. It was delivered to me last Friday and I've had a couple chances to use it in very different conditions.

The first was in very sunny, bright Florida sunlight and of course the pix were outstanding. My granddaughters were here and the pix around the pool were colorful and the skin tones excellent.

The second opportunity was a couple days later at Crystal Springs near Ocala. We were about 2 miles from the park when it began to drizzle. It was cloudy and overcast all day and rained off and on. I took about 70 shots, blew off about 25.

After 2 very different experiences I have to say that the FZ1 is an excellent camera where light is good but has it's problems in poor lighting or when flash is used. I'm not surprised. No camera is perfect and those with this tremendous range have these problems unless you have full manual controls which I didn't need or want in the FZ1 - I've got the UZI.

I'm interested in your experiences in low light and with flash. I'll be following you on this site and the Oly site.

One thing I m ght mention, I have a A200 Oly lense that I tried a few pix with and it seems to work very well. Looks like it was made for the camera and vignetteing is not a problem. It's 1.5 so at full tele it becomes 630mm. The B300 is just too big IMHO to balance well with this little camera and I doubt I'll use it often. If I didn't already have it I wouldn't spend the money but the A200 is the way to go.

I'll be trying my Raynox6000 WA and will let you know the results.

I love this little FUZI but I'm keeping my UZI for the heavy work.

Your pix are great,

Don

Each camera has it's own special "footprint" colorwise. I have found that the FZ1 is very true to the natural colors, and slightly up in saturation, but not too much. It is especially good on indoor shots.

I also have an A200, but I haven't taken the time to adapt it to the FZ1 yet. That is in the near future.

The FZ1 is, to put it bluntly, crappy on flash shots. That can be corrected with a slave flash, and then the pics are great. As far as cloudy days go, the pics tend to be a bit dark in some cases, but can be easily corrected with an editing program. I have even found that some bright sunlight shots also come out a bit dark. I just let the editing program take care of that (I like my pics a bit brighter than many people do).

The UZI is unmatched for daylight landscapes, and so easy to use that I find myself picking it up instead of my UZI. Oh well.......

I will be posting more and more of my FZ1 trip pix in my Pbase galleries (I did more this morning) so you can see how it perfoms for me under different conditions.

I get a bit nervous posting FZ1 pics in an Olympus gallery, but so far no one has flamed me, so I guess I'll continue, albeit carefully.

Does the FZ1 have a preflash like the UZI? What slave are you using?

Yes, it does have a pre-flash. And I use a Digi-Slave (about $99)
