Hi,

after fighting for quite a while, I was able to catch a like new Q today (not so well received Christmas present, less than 4 weeks old, only indoor and less than 100 shots) for a very fair price and I am more than happy...

It's a gem, no question here. The weather is most ugly at the moment so I am only able to play a bit around. However, I would like to share my very first pictures with the camera.

Take care

Daniel

Great stuff

Fantastic first shots! :) I only have mine like 4 weeks and loving it, bit getting used to as i have never used a Leica in the past...

Enjoy your new toy! :D

Hi,

thanks for your friendly feedback and warm welcome.

Definitely the more you use the Q the more fun it is. It's a extremley versatile little camera.

After just a bit of using my biggest concern that it has 28 and not 35mm is practically gone. I've worked a lot with wider than 28 or with 35mm, but I see that 28mm is extremely versatile and good to use.

The file quality is just stunning. There is not much more to say, just stunning - with RAW. I don't really like the JPGs, so I am just using DNG now, no jpgs anymore. Fuji does have a quite an edge with jpgs - imho.

As said, I am more than happy and will post more in the future.

Attached a few pics, still just playing around. But when I was informing myself about the Q I was happy about every file in the net, so I contribute a bit for the still seeking and all other to share ... ;-)

Here I just told my dogs to look straight forward - worked out very well....

And my wife in the cold ...

... also my wife, missed the focus on her in the background ;-)

.The next camera with the new lens approach without the burden of the size and distance limitation of the sensor of the M series is the Q. No combination of an M and its lenses can give such good results...

That said, I far prefer using my M to my Q and my Q will be at the dealer for sale very soon, as I have just not warmed to it at all, sadly.

It's a great camera, but let's not go crazy here. Having autofocus is nice. Having traditional controls is wonderful. The chip is one generation newer than in the current 'M' so that's pretty cool. The lens quality is excellent, and the chip is matched well to the lens with software providing really good image quality. The size and weight are perfect to my taste. But M's can't give as good results? I don't think that's true at all. M's give you the advantage of interchangeable lenses, and while the 28 built into the 'Q' is excellent there are plenty of lenses in the M lineup that at least as good and arguably better. Still, as a compact travel or street camera the 'Q' is absolutely fantastic. I love mine.

Maybe I got misunderstood. Yes as a fixed lens small camera the Q is a perfect joy, and yes no combination of M hardware and 28 mm lens can get close to the Q.

But the M 240 and the coming successor , supposedly the M10 , and the large selection of lenses give a huge choice to adapt to the needs.

And the SL with the firmware update 2.2 and lenses is tough to beat.

This whole discussion started with the statement that the "ill fated" X Vario was the mother of newer better lens design but had a poor AF, not very reliable , but good exposure settings and wonderful colors is a good reason to keep the X Vario if enough light is available and no hectic picture taking is needed

Hi Daniel,

Cracking images, and lucky you - I recently bought a preloved X 113, with a view of seeing if I like the Leica way of doing things. My early tests are positive with mine, and I now have a Q saving fund which will take a year or two, but will be my next labour of love. And my next camera.

Thank you for sharing your images. If you wish to see some of my X image look me up on flickr below.

Hi Dave,

thanks, and you have some great pictures in your gallery. It's obvious that with the way of your fotos you will have a lot of fun and for sure also great result with the Q once you'll have it.

It's a fricking amount of money one have to pay for a Q, but hey, we only live once, and it's really worth saving for it.

I can tell you, the more I use it, the more love it. It's a really great tool, and the 28mm is, dispite my long arguing that it is not 35mm, a really great focal length to use.

For the time being some more pics I've taken the last days. I can also tell you that the familiy pics I've taken are great and with some special touch, but I don't share these here.

Have fun and take care

Daniel

Cheers Daniel for the comments and advice about the Q, I am determined to take my time and save for one. The only thing I can seems that once I make it we may well be on a Q2.

Keep up the good work.
