Well it warmed up so I finally got out and found a new place to test in the winter. An indoor bird sanctuary. First time ever shooting wildlife with a FF. I wanted to test the crop-ability of this cam. I think I like my new 5D4. I can hardly wait to find something flying.

ISO 6400. 100-400 & 1.4 III. I have not even formally MFA'd it because FoCal won't work with Sierra yet. I just put the 5D3 numbers in.

I'll never crop like this in real life.

So are you trying to say that the 5d4 is owl the camera that you need? ;)

Gorgeous flying creatures! I joined the 5DMIV gansta too, amazing how I used to read your posts for the 6D and the 7D :)

Keep shooting and sharing!

Congratulations on the new camera. I look forward to your impressions, especially as compared to the 7D2 from a real life perspective.

I've been contemplating FF as well but have decided to weight a bit to see what the 6D2 brings.

I did try the 6D and as wonderful the camera is, 7D2 focusing and ergonomics are a significant step up and I ended up returning the 6D.

Lousy time if year. Not a lot of birds for BIF but I can hardly wait until I can get to that.

Well I may be selling my 7D2 as I have been thinking of going one body only. Gotta check out BIF but I don't see an issue. You get all focus points at F8 so I'll get all the zones using my 1.4 III. I like using all of the focusing options.

Ergonomics are identical with 7D2 expect for the AF area select button is not on the Multi Controller. Just below so that is the only thing I'm fumbling with. AF is snappier than the 7D2.

Those are some nice shots, I really like how well there crops are looking. I have the same combo, and am looking forward to being able to test it out, once the weather warms up and the birds are back. I was planning on using my 7d mark ii with my recently acquired 100-400mm II. But looking at these pictures I have to try the 5d mark iv with that lens also.

That is my issue. Winter and I hate testing but I found this indoor bird refuge. My new test site. Also it warned up enough to get out and get smaller ones. Not enough bigger birds for BIF around.

A bird preserve within the city. There is a building for injured birds.

Lovely images Zee.

I think for short to medium distance 5D IV is great for cropping. For longer distances, I am unsure if 5D IV is better than my 80D, especially for smaller birds. I feel that 5D IV file quality is better even when I crop a lot, but I wonder if 80D would have been better with less cropping.

Anyways, two examples of extreme cropping with 5D IV on smaller birds.

This birds was 40 to 50 ft away.

Full frame, size reduced.

When I was trying to decide which path to take I had a long hard look at the 80D. Love it's sensor.
For me its the smaller, lighter form factor, and the flip out screen. Im also enjoying the greater selection of lenses EF-S gives you.

I have gone back to my 5Dmkiii for the winter, FF seems to be a bit nicer when the days are gloomy. The MKiv would be almost the best of both worlds, but i cant see me giving up the 80D during the summer days.

Looks like you are enjoying the MKiv, lovely shots.
Yes I am. More than expected. I really did not know where to go after selling my 5D3 about 6 months ago. I also looked hard at the 1DX II which was just too much cash and not enough megapixels and I ordered the 5DSR and cancelled it. Unless I need the FPS I'm not sure how much use my 7D3 will get but I have not tried BIF with the 5D4 yet.

I see you went from the 5DIII to the 5DIV. Is the MkIV version that much of an improvement on the MkIII? I've got the 5DII and am tempted by the MkIV, though I also have the 6D. I much prefer it to the 5DII, which I find rather clunky.
