So far very happy with the IQ of my pics compared to my old FZ1000.

Still learning how to use this great camera effectively...

Pictures post processed in Elements 14 after conversion from RAF to DNG.

Please note, that all those pictures were shot through double laminated, heated and curved airplane window panels...

Nice! Just wondering: How much time do you get to take pictures during a flight and are there rules about this? I would guess that a lot of great picture opportunities are during flight phases where the pilot should be focused on flying. Thinking about takeoff and landing.
 
Yes, it is called the sterile cockpit rule, no irrelevant discussions or tasks below 20.000 feet, which is more or less 20 minutes before the landing and 10-15 minutes during the climb.

There are plenty of opportunities to take beautiful pictures during all other, less task demanding phases of flight when you might be cruising for 12-14 hours....

Safety first, no question about that.

Very cool!

I love when I get to fly the 787. Great plane.

You might want to consider getting a Lenskirt or rubber lens hood, especially for night pictures. It should help cut down on glare and reflection. I travel with one for plane trips and cityscapes shot from buildings.


Not sure the rules on blocking the glass but I've heard stories of pilots putting up the sun screen for most of the cruise.

Not without its issues though. China Southern had 1 787 grounded for more than a week here in Auckland and had to abandon another 787 flight last Sunday for engineering reasons. They used to alternate 330s with 777 but have changed to the 787. I have been on those Guangzhou routes a few times now, picked the 330 on my last flight and when I returned, the 787 was still grounded. Not good news ... what sectors do you fly?

Ah, yes, do they let you take pics of that bird from the tarmac??? That could be interesting...

I have had one for my old FZ1000 and it worked very well eliminating reflections from inside the cockpit.

Might want to get another one for my new XT2.

This is getting off-topic now, but indeed there have been several issues with this type lately, not to mention several months of complete grounding of the entire 787 fleet when the batteries were catching fire.

All the serious issues seem to have been fixed by now.

The ones you see now and then are more to do with the Rolls-Royce engines than the aircraft itself.

If you look at the overall aircraft rotations around the world there are numerous issues with basically all the types out there.

It is inevitable, complicated machines tend to have their own problems.

Fortunately, great engineers manage to fix them all and make those aircraft airworthy in no time..

You are correct, this is utterly off-topic. However the incidents I described happened within the last few weeks, the grounding of yet another 787 last week here in Auckland.

On topic: any chance you could get some images from underneath the fuselage, the front?? (for some reason an ultra-wide angle comes to mind here...)
