Show me your bats...

Dmitry,

Last week I took this picture at the Devil's Sinkhole in West Texas. There are millions of Bats that call this sinkhole home. It was a very cool experiance!!

yes, this is a built in one, cause i did not get a e-ttl compatible one yet.

the real problem was a focus. there was no way to AF or MF, so i just took as many as i could and was kind of surprised when managed to pick up a few not perfect but pretty good pics.
I really like this picture. Sure it's direct flash (how else with
these critters?) but it is really cool.

No fair. I was a bat biologist for 8 years and was never able to take photos becuase I was always the one capturing and handling the bats! I assume that you're somewhere in North America in that your bats appear to be Eptesicus fuscus or the ubiquitous Big Brown Bat. I warn you that they're fiesty. Don't handle them--you'll get bit but good! Rabies is fatal you know.

Nice photos. I see that someone was using a gloved hand when holding.

cheers

hehe, i was using the glove not being stupid enough trying to hold this thing this a bare hand.
you're right i live in boston.

ha, i'm also a biologist (not this kind though) but studied those creatures just for 2 hours. :) agree, not long enough.

there were 2 of them visiting my kitchen, i'm sure, the couple. the guy had a tick. what else. this is my 1st experience with them :0) so, i don't have more info.
Nice photos. I see that someone was using a gloved hand when holding.

cheers

Here's one I just took today at the Woodland Park zoo in Seattle. This is in near total darkness -- exposure is 1/2 second at ISO 3200, handheld!
