Sony a6000 Creative Style

Ok so when i shoot i like to use jpeg and raw so i can transfer some of my photos to my phone and do Instagram and such. For the creative style i have always done nutural because I use Lightroom for all of my post processing. When I transfer the full sized jpegs to my phone i usually use snapseed or lightroom mobile to do a small amount of work before I post.

I was just wondering what creative style people recommend so there is less work I need to do on my phone. The phone apps are great but they just dont have quite the same cool features as the full lightroom or photoshop. Also i know this camera can somtimes produce soft images no matter what lesn you use so do the creative styles add sharpening or do you have to put the setting in and how much should I use for an ravager image.

I always use neutral (-3/-3/1) and camera raw in pc, maybe Vivid (0/0/0) solve your question.

Hi mooreimaging, that sounds like operator error. The only time the a6000 I use produces soft images is when I screw up and don't have something set right, or I miss focus, so I know i have to disagree about this. I wouldn't want someone to get the wrong idea. IMO if someone can't take a good picture with an a6000, with any lens, then maybe some video tutorials and even some book-learnin' are in order.

Also difficult with such a small screen. You might want to try Snapseed? It has some nice effects.

In all cases that my a6000 produced soft images it was my own fault. I suggest you take more care of the focusing. You can increase the perceived sharpness by using a wider aperture to blur the background (1:1 detail will be slightly less of course) and/or by isolating your subject more. For portraits you can use eye-AF.

I often use neutral 0 1 0 or neutral -1 1 0. I don't mess too much with sharpness, if I want to have a properly sharpened image I shoot RAW and use Capture One.

Another tip to increase sharpness is to increase your exposure so the sensor gets more light. That way there'll be less noise reduction, which blurs the image.

Also note the difference between the multiple types of unsharpness: motion blur, out of focus, lens sharpness, noise reduction, ...

What I would do is shoot in RAW, then use the wifi transfer and Playmemories app to send it to your cell phone (converts to standard .jpg but leaves the RAW on your camera in case you want to do further processing at home later). Then open the .jpg in the VSCO app which has a wide range of presets and a lot of customizing available for them.

The Lightroom App is pretty good if I want to do my usual Lightroom workflow with familar controls, but VSCO is fun too. I wouldn't use the Creative profiles to create the .jpg since you can't put it back to normal once it has been applied, if phone app processing is what you are really after (and the level of control you get with it).

You don't have to shoot JPG to transfer a JPG to your phone. I only shoot RAW and send images to my iPhone all the time.

Actually, if you want a full resolution JPEG transferred to your phone, you have to shoot RAW+JPEG.

Choosing only RAW and sending it via PlayMemories will give you a small JPEG file (around 1200x800) which is just a small JPEG preview embedded into RAW file.

Normally, I always shoot vivid because if I need to push to social media, the output is straight RGB and I want the colors to pop without over doing it filters.

I don't like the vivid style much. I prefer how neutral and standard handle the skin tones.

Same here. I've been liking Neutral a lot more because of it handles skin tones and for a while I used Clear because I liked the contrasty look. I almost always edit my photos through Lightroom though(RAW), starting with certain VSCO presets for the colors they produce. On mobile I mostly edit through VSCO as well.
