What Happened to X1D Shipping Date?

I tried the X1D demo model when it was 'launched', and at that time we were looking at getting store demo models late summer, and shipping units in the fall time frame.

B&H had then pushed their estimated shipping date back to Dec 1st - but I now see that this has been deleted, and there's no date at all.

So what's the story?

The demo unit was a million miles away from being production ready, so I'm assuming that the path to an actual completed product is proving harder than they thought?

Or did they just launch early to try and steal the spotlight from Fuji's MF launch of the GFX 50S?

I have the X1D on order with our local dealer and confirmed Sweden is not shipping yet.

Hasselblad left this message on the GetDPI forum where they state shipments start this month; I might cancel and wait for Fuji's MF GFX in 2017:

"We are very saddened to read this thread and we do understand your frustration. We very much apologise for the inconvenience. After its announcement, the X1D became a global success. Due to the very high amount of orders that followed, we had to make structural changes to our factory in Sweden to meet the demand and increase the number of units produced per day.

We have been shipping demo units since August and most of our partners have X1D available for hands-on experience, but ramping up end-user cameras took longer than we anticipated. On a positive note, we are starting to fulfil end-user orders as of this month.

We thank you for your patience and we hope that you accept our sincerest apologies.

The lack of any customer units in the 'wild' suggests that the camera is not ready, and has not shipped.

My guess would be that they jumped very early for PR reasons, and have then struggled to produce a final product which would satisfy the consumer.

I have a requests into my local Blad rep for a demo when it's finally available - but at this point the Fuji system is looking like the one to purchase in spring.
 
B&H now saying 'Expected availability: Feb 2017' on their website

Looks like they jumped way early to grab the spotlight, but delivery is proving to be a real issue.

Not a great business model for those left waiting.
 
Lots of things can delay a launch, but I do think one of the issues was them underestimating the number of pre-orders. I have been shooting M4/3's since I started doing photography and as requests for my services have grown I've never felt FF was a big enough step up to invest into a whole new and heavy system. I've been waiting for MF to go mirrorless for a couple of years now and this will be my next system barring major issues with the cameras before mine ships.
 
still not seeing anyone with a camera in the wild though - which is odd, because you'd think they'd have shipped something by now...
 
Kevin Raber @ Luminous Landscape posted this statement this evening (Sunday).

"On Friday I interviewed Perry and the Ove regarding shipping status of the X1D. I'll have an article finished in the morning on what's going on and what to expect. I took the X1D to Antarctica and have had a few weeks with it. It's a real nice camera. I just upgraded the firmware to the latest and shipping firmware. I will be completing my testing and will get a review started very soon. There is a lot to like about this camera and it will only get better. More sometime on Monday."
