I have noticed that in threads involving any camera no matter how good there are always people who are quick to jump on whatever flaw. real or imagined, the camera has or feature it lacks (no camera is perfect) and often exaggerate that perceived flaw to the point where they claim the camera is unacceptable. Personally I can work around any flaw or feature lack I know of as long as the camera is good to excellent in other areas. What do you think?

I can work around some technical issues, but one thing that's a chronic annoyance is bad ergonomics; if frequently-used controls are hard to reach or unresponsive I have a hard time dealing with that.

Hence the OP's question...

Every camera has it's own compromises, some more than others. Some compromises can be worked around, the willingness to do so depends on needs and how much the other features of the gear weigh in the mix, and how entitled one feels about all of it.

It's a form of modern tribalism: place your personal worth and sense of self into the objects that you purchase and surround yourself with, as it is believed that these serve to identify you and your values to other people.

For some that is true, some people judge others by their material objects and surface appointments; others try their best to consistently transcend those ephemeral impressions.

I have owned cameras with less than ideal ergonomics (remember what is bad for one person may be good for another) yet had no problem working around it. My question is why can't you do the same?

I think it's human nature to complain. I mean, you're doing it right now -
No I'm not. I'm asking a question.
instead of talking about the good things about the forums, you're jumping on a flaw that you perceive. But don't think that it's a bad thing, though. Pointing out problems hopefully leads to those problems being addressed, and improvement is always a great thing. Have a great day.
That isn't my point. I acknowledged that all cameras have flaws. What I don't understand is the degree with which people complain to the point of rejecting an otherwise great camera. The latest is people saying "no touch screen, I don't want it". Now a touch screen can be very handy for people who use the LCD a lot but the lack of one certainly doesn't make it unusable. We used cameras for decades without one.

Ignore and move on. That would be another good discussion. Why do people reply to forums they have no interest in?

In other words it's an attempt to make the camera you own seem better than another you don't own.

When I hear minute complaints I think of all the great art taken using a camera with
a shutter, aperture and focus control at iso 50.

And, by association, show your superiority by being able to make a decision to buy such an apparently "superior" object.

Absolutely agree with that sentence. So long as that flaw isn't a manufacturing fault or planned obsolescence (in which case moan to all and sundry as it motivates manufacturers to improve QC).

Alas the old idiom "A bad workmen blames their tools" has never been so apt. But that's 21st Century consumerism for you, with adverts having us believe we're measured by our labels and our gadgets rather than our self and our individuality. :(

But hey, this is a gear review website funded by adverts. What else should we expect?! ;)

[Apologies to dinoSnake - Hadn't read what you wrote until after posting above.

Uch, maybe I'm not so individual after all :p ]

I always believed in the principle that cameras are tools and it is up to the photographer to learn how to properly work with his tools.

I think that what most of those who complain are simply not capable or too lazy to learn that and as usual, blaming the tool is always an easy solution.

When I hear all these complaints I think they must be fairly young and don't realize how good they have it. Repeat, I want improvements in gear as much as the next guy but sometimes the complaining is a bit much.
