Free Mount Adapter EF-EOS M with M5 Kit

I worked in a hardware store when I was in high school and we had specialty fittings like that. You might be better off swapping out the stud on quick release plate.

Where there's a will...

It was very disappointed that Canon took away the major part of the adaptor !

I cannot find any reasons why Canon did that...
Fairly simple answer.

The new EF to EF-M without tripod mount is not to be sold individually. This way retailers can't take them out of kits and sell them for profit.

Hi Andy,

At least you got the adapter free. I am not sure if anyone in the USA received a free adapter...

Wow, that's sucks. Time to order from Canada!

Not only is it cheaper here then in the USA "conversion rates" we get 2 freebies!

Canon Connect Station CS-100 and the EF-EFM adapter.

Thank you for sharing a great deal :)

Rather miffed to find that the adapter doesn't come with the tripod mount, when at the time I ordered this was not on the Canon UK store to see and there was no mention in the Amazon details that it doesn't come with the tripod mount.

Will have a whinge at Canon UK CS and see if I can get one in the mail as their own user manual says you have to use that part when putting it on a tripod with an EF lense!

I tried that but with no joy so far, but I am still exchanging emails with them

Canon support agreed the part was missing according to the instructions and gave me the details of their 'preferred supplier' to contact to have one shipped out.

But then Canon wouldn't authorize their preferred supplier to send me the part as Canon said it is not missing from the box.

And the preferred supplier won't sell me the part either as they are not allowed by Canon to sell parts, only complete items.

So you can't buy an M5 in the EU without the included adaptor sans tripod mount, and you can't buy the tripod mount alone.

Amazon can't supply the part either (not surprising) but are quite happy for me to return the M5 for a full refund, but that seems a rather dramatic course of action.

So I have gone back to Canon again and told them that this seems a rather strange state of affairs and asked once again that they supply me a tripod mount.

If nothing else, I will threaten them that the product is not fit for purpose and refer them to trading standards for false advertising and see where that goes :)
Canon will say they didn't advertise anything. The retailer you purchased it off did.

That's what they already said to me - take it up with the retailer.

And Amazon said they would refund of course.

You would probably want to replace the mounting bolt on a quick release plate. But I don't know that I would bother. It's free and would work fine with a fast prime.

I have two eosm-FD adapters, one with a mount that I use with my macros, and one without that I use with a 50 mm prime.

Unless you paid extra for the adapter why complain. Can you get a better price without the adapter? Probably not.

It's not the camera...

Ideally a 3/8 male screw to the Adapter without the extension to a 1/4 female screw onto the tripod mount. I have a manfrotto. Perhaps I have the male and female ends confused. If I have I apologise... If you can find an alternative fitting I would be grateful for your view. Many thanks.

The closest I can find is from USA based Hardware specialist McMaster Carr mcmaster.com

It would require 2 pieces

92499A487 M5 male to 10-32 female

92499A109 10-32 male to 1/4-20 female

You would stack one onto the other and they look like the attached photo below

However, I wouldn't trust this setup with anything bigger than the 50mm STM. It would not take much of a jolt to completely shear off the M5 or 10-32 stud.

Unless you want to cut up a block of aluminum to mimic the original tripod foot, I think the only truly safe and effective option is a genuine tripod foot.

Thanks for your insight. I have both adapters so is not a great issue for me. I was trying to assist. However you are correct it would be a little risky. I hope canon come up with a cost effective solution as it seems to me to be an design error. Cheers

Hi all,

I received my M5 kit this week which included the free mount adapter. This was a welcome bonus until I realised Canon has removed the tripod mount which seems like a pretty petty penny pinching tactic and reduced the usefulness with longer lenses. I can't seem to find the tripod adapter anywhere to buy!

Very disappointing Canon
Totally agree. I received my body only + adapter today and was gob-smacked that the tripod mount is deliberately excluded. That was not stated on the vendor's website and I agree it seems a low trick, especially if you cannot buy it independently.

I really hope Canon does something about this, as I am considering returning the box unopened and pursuing the Canadian deal. Or maybe one of those Sony Alphas on special right now.

Gets! One of the reasons I got it all as a bundle so soon was because we got the adapter as part of the deal. Can't believe they've gone to the lengths of getting a new box made up to just make a kit without the sodding tripod part. They must have thought a lot of retailers would be nabbing the adapters and selling them separately or something!

At least I've got the fallback of that Amazon thread adaptor, that will do the job.
One of Canon's approved service centres has said they can supply the tripod mount for £44 inc VAT and postage
