Looking for an overall good dslr to buy this month. Want something that shots 4k, good photo and can vlog well. Any suggestions?

define expensive.

Not many dslrs can do 4k. The new Sony A99ii is a good one, but that's pretty expensive.

Do you understand the limitations of DSLRs for video - the viewfinder blacks out during video?

You should probably look at mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras with electronic viewfinders (EVFs) which don't black out. Panasonic is something of a video specialist so look at the GH4, GX8 or G85.

Nikon and Pentax aren't good for video, period.

Canon can do video, and fairly well, but not 4k for cheap - 5D4 is the cheapest 4k option, at nearly $3k for the body.

Sony's options can't do 4k either, except for their latest and greatest - also around $3k.

This leaves us mirrorless options

Fuji XT-2 can do 4k, though you'll likely want the grip to do it. $1600 for the body, + $200 (I think) for the grip.

Sony A6300 and A6500 can do 4k, but will overheat after 5-10 minutes.

Olympus E-M1 mk2 can do 4k, for $2k

Panasonic has 4k in the GH4 ($1300 or so), G85 ($900 for body), and GX85 ($700 for body). Stills quality is comparable to a Canon APS-C DSLR. The G85 and GX85 have in body stabilization, too - great for when you want to move or pan the camera, but don't have a gimbal or a good fluid-head tripod.

If 4k matters, go with Panasonic.

Overheating has been reduced in the latest firmware, and most users seem to be getting the full 30 minutes now. The A6500 is rather expensive.

Not to pick at the nits, but all of the Sony DSLT's since the A55 and A33 in 2010 will shoot video clips without going "black", and they are not mirror-less cameras.

Thanks for allowing the correction. The OP may not be aware of Sony's overall contribution in this specific area.

But they aren't DSLRs either and they have EVFs.

Right you are on all points.

I'm just hoping to add a little more to your very sound advice to the OP.

I assume the OP wants to expand his horizons by seeing all of the choices in his quest to limit the inevitable compromises in the selection for his own best all around camera.

4K, ILC, and not to expensive ain't in the same spec sheet anywhere.

Great video, ILC, and not to expensive just might be found in the A68 spec sheet. Or not. Depends on who's looking.

I would say don't rule out point and shoots. You're more likely to carry around a point and shoot... therefor you'll take more pictures/videos.

The best all-round dSLR could be the Canon 5DIV, the Nikon D750 or the Nikon D7200. But not for 4k vlogging.

For the best price performance for 4K vlogging, get a video camera.

If you must use a stills camera, get something mirrorless, not a dSLR, probably a Panasonic.

"good" since best costs way too much.
Good video can be produced from a used Canon T6i or 70D. 70D does better focus pulls and touch AF. Neither is not getting you 4k or FHD slo-mo. Do you need these?

70D has the focus system of the 7D, so its very reliable for still pics & fps, and a good all-round camera but not a best one.

Magic Lantern, gives you a host of goodies, which makes good even better for free. Whether its video or still pix, for either of these.

The Sony a6500 is out and I think the overheating problems aren't as big - might be something you would want to look into.

Well if he doesn't need 4k, why not go with the 80d?

O.P., at the current state, you're getting a bunch of different model names thrown at you. You could gather the same by simply looking at the cameras listed on this site.

If you want more targeted advice, at least tell us what your budget is. Ask 10 people what "not too expensive" means, and you'll likely get 10 different answers.
