I'm looking at the Panasonic g85 with 20mm 1.7 lens. I just realized that there's a crop factor in 4k. 2.2 I believe? Does that mean that this lens will turn into a 44mm (88mm FF equiv) lens? Would be great for vlogging my nostrils ;) If that's the case, and I stand far enough back to get an upper body portrait style video of myself, would a shotgun mic even pick me up?

No crop factor in 1080p though right?

The G85 has full sensor readout for 4k, it crops slightly for stabilization.

Maybe 2.2x total, ie. 20mm = 44mm FF equiv.

That seems odd. On my GX80 the crop in 4K is very slight compared to a 16:9 photo. It's a bit further with e-stabilization. But without that the crop isn't that far, it certainly is 2x.

You've not got 4K Live Cropping or Ex Tele enabled have you?

It's one of the few lenses I saw with a fast aperture. Plus 40mm is a decent focal length for what I'll be doing, at least I think it will be. I'm mainly just talking in front of the camera, doing green screen work etc.

I'm open to better lens suggestions ;) I'm trying to get that shallow depth of field look without going to full frame as none of the full frame cameras have a fully articulating touch screen.

Oh, so the 2.2x crop includes the already 2x crop of the micro 4/3 system from full frame? It's just an additional .2x crop for stabilization? That certainly makes more sense ;) Thanks!

If you like the lens then don't worry about using it.

I've used the 20mm for video and thanks to the IBIS I've been very happy with the results. Best if manually focussed though.

I bet he's thinking that the 20mm can tend to hunt. The 25mm f1.4 is such a worthy upgrade (albeit less compact).

Interesting, thanks. I do shoot some vlog style clips at arms length sometimes, so that's why I was leaning more towards the 20mm instead of the 25mm. Although if I put the camera on a tripod and stretch out a bit, I bet that f1.4 would be worth it ;)

I'm pretty much always using manual focus, so that wouldn't be an issue.
