Hot mirror. Can anyone tell me...

The actual size is of the filter is 10.9mm x 12.9mm x 1.2mm thick
anything thicker or bigger will not fit. The filter slides into a
slot in the holder and is held in with a clip.
I see.
Cool. What about a picture taken with no filters on the camera
whatsoever? Have you tried that, and what does it look like? 8)
Yes I have and here are a couple. They are very noisy and the color is way off. Too much IR on top of the visible light.

The first shot is no filter at all.
The second is with 2 linear polarizers crossed.

All the "NightShot" switch would do would be to

(a) Turn on the emitter(s)
and
(b) Replace the hotmirror with a small R72 filter.

YOUR THOUGHTS? 8)

Not quite. When in nightshot mode the hot mirror filter is out of the way.

The ir filter would be in front of the ccd on regular shooting mode and out of the way on nightshot mode.

Nono, I mean if Sony would make us an "ideal" camera, then the hotmirror would be there for Normal and the hotmirror would be replaced by an R72 in "NightShot" but we wouldn't be bound to the f/2.0-2.4 and 1/60s.

Sounds good to me.

Actually, if they would just open up the in camera software control so you could shoot above the restrictions of 1/60 and F2 in nightmode. Hopefully the 828 will have full range nightmode.
