Which means OP's evaluation is wrong because in terms of sharpness the FE35 2.8 has all of them beat.I have one for sale. Bought it new from official store in Europe on a Sale and used it for a week. I replaced it with Loxia 35.
IQ difference is small between the 2, with a small advantage for Loxia. And it is not about sharpness, but about contrast. The real main advantage of the Zeiss is the auto magnification when manual focusing.
People can knock the slow aperture or more "clincial" rendering of the FE35 2.8, but the sharpness (especially at corners) is vastly better than the Voig without any corner smearing and field curvature.
That contradicts with everything that I've read about these 2 lenses.Compared to Voigt. 40/1.4 that I also had, the 35/1.7 is much better. More sharpness and more neutral colors. Voigt. 40/1.4 had that yellowish cast (and I had the MC version).
--But, for black and white, the 35/1.7 is nicer than both Loxia and Voigt 40/1.4.
