The EM-1 Mark II looks like the perfect host for my 300/2.8. Add the 12-100/4,and it looks to be the perfect system for days out on the lake shooting lakescapes and wildlife.

If you think the price is high, take a look at a Sony A7r ii.

While it $1,500 would a much easier price to swallow, the Mark II looks to be an ideal piece of kit for the shooting I like to do. Will be ordering this Spring in time for summer shooting, and already have the wife's okie dokie who immediately saw the case.

I'm buying it as well.....in two years.

Don't bother. The price will drop within 6 months. Unless, you absolutely need it now, just wait.

I'm buying too. It looks similar enough to the mk I for the wife not to notice. :-)

Placed my order, don't listen to the naysayers. Price will only drop over the next year if you combine it with a lens.

The price of this camera is going to tumble FAST. The pricing is absurd. But hey if early adopters want to pay for all the R&D be my guest, I'll pick it up in a year when it's half the price :-)

That is what everyone said about the 300mm f4. Didn't happen. Only recently have any been available without pre-order and there have been no reduced prices.

They will keep updating the E-M1 MkII for about 3 years (they now indicate they plan on a 4 year cycle for their top camera) with firmware updates. You will probably see kits after 6-12 months and occasional $200 off sales after 18-24 months. The far more powerful processor on the new camera should allow additional features being added.

This presumes there will be no dramatic advances in sensor design over the next few years.

With all due respect to Olympus (and trust me, I have a lot of respect, with two bodies. 7 lenses and a flash) - this is m43, not FF. And even with FF, the A7II is substantially lower than A7RII. Why? cause it's different beasts. In fact, the A7II, which is still FF with more detail and MPs than the EM1II, is only 1700$ (!!!)

But the A7RII - it's a 42MP camera. You think the Olympus is expensive because of its strong processing power? you know how much processing power 42MP pictures need?

You think thier new sensor "developed in part by their medical group" is expensive? A FF sensor is 4 times the size and price of a m43 sensor.

Comeon... this is absurd.

You want to buy one? buy it... but you are just playing into Olympus' hands :)

By more then $1-200? If you have to wait 6 months to save <$200 after waiting 1+yrs for the release...seems you'd be better to just get it and take the $200 as "rent"...the em1 is $1k now...so it took 3-4years to drop $600??

wait your whole life to save a penny,

much more fun to empty the trust fund...liquidate the retirement savings and wack a huge hunk of cash down!!!

i see a em1 mk2 + underwater housing + macro twin flash + 300f4 in my very near future

An EM2 should easily out class an A7RII at AF speed and overall response speed given my experience with the Sony. Yes, the Olympus is part expensive (part) because of the precessing power. You are looking at one metric (42 MP) without looking at 15 fps, full 20 MP raws and AF-C.

I had a Canon-shooting friend who thought that about the big light-grey lenses... as long as the total stayed the same he was good. He disappeared some time after he got a 200-400 ($11k/£9k8) and hasn't been heard of since. Could just be his life got busy in some other area or course... possibly...

(True story, although there was one vague report it was the latter explanation.)

Haha, Dr J :-)

My wife hasn't got a clue what it looks like, or exactly how many cameras and lenses I have. BUT she does know what I am going to buy, and how much it is likely to cost. She has also given pre-approval ... ;-) :-D .
