Don't know whether to be thrilled or disappointed.

so you are thinking they are both dull? ... FWIW, these were taken in the Pacific Northwest last week on a totally overcast day in a light rain. Conditions were identical for both shots.... which you might want to check the data.

Has anybody else here checked the EXIF?

First pic was with Samsung cell phone? Zoom in... It is much sharper than second taken with X-T1. My guess is camera shake in the Fuji picture.

The Fuji pic is also over exposed and does not have a proper black point, so that makes it look low-contrast and washed out.

On the up side, Fujis don't start fires ;-)

As raindance said it's the dull lighting, the subject, the fact that you chose to use f2.8 etc. The difference is that you can make fuji pic better both in camera by changing contrast, film simulation, f-stop, using better lens, and out of camera if you shoot raw. So you have 2 choices, you can decide that smartphone is good enough and sell all your cameras or you can have a hobby of improving your skills, accepting that in some situations your pics will be dull whatever hardware you use and capturing beautiful moments with the max visual effect.

I never said they were dull Dimitri....... and the Fuji was shot raw on a very bleak day.

^^This. Maybe try putting your S7 on a tripod, attach a ND filter, and set the shutter for 5 or 10 seconds in Velvia film simulation mode. Oh, wait... ;)

The fact is any camera can take snapshots, which is what this photo is. If you're satisfied with that type of photography, a phone will do. I use my iPhone for snapshots and short videos; it's just another photographic tool. I don't think you (the op), as an X-T1 owner, are trying to truly compare its capabilities to your S7 phone camera, but you've demonstrated that the camera phone does a great job of what it's designed for. In contrast, you haven't demonstrated what the Fuji X-T1 is capable of.

At 100%, there is a lot of blur in the Fuji image. Did you have the OIS turned off?
