Sony A6500 coming?

If true this model should have two dials and a dedicated EV comp dial. Touch screen and a larger body. IBIS with better heat management for 4K videos. Will be priced around $1500-1700. Sony wants to get into this price segment like the D500 and XT2. A new sensor will be the surprise. Expect BSI tech with a bump in MP.

Well it looks like the A6500 is rumoured to be announced:

IBIS is reportedly included.

I wonder if the A6300 price will drop?

Nonsense - and not likely before 2018.

(SAR is quoting that Japanese website, which in turn is quoting "a source overseas". Probably they just quote and requote each other, hahaha....)

Ooops - what a difference 12 hours make :)

I also happy that Sony expands the line of APS-C bodies. IBIS and touch is not for me so I will stay with the a6300. But I do like more options.

I have bought the a6300 about 3 weeks ago, and I definitely could use IBIS and touch screen. Man this hurts. A LOT.

Btw, any chance the new menu system will come for the a6300 too?

The α6500 offers focal plane phase-detection AF even when an A-mount lens is mounted using a mount adaptor (LA-EA3) from Sony. So you can take advantage of the autofocus system’s uniquely wide coverage provided by 425 focal plane phase-detection AF points, as well as fast, fluid tracking performance when shooting with other lenses as well as E-mount lenses.

Well, this may push me over the edge. If all those wonderful, and cheap, A-mount lenses perform well on this camera... The 6300 didnt' do all that much for me, but the 6500 checks a lot of boxes.

Hahahahaha wow..... crop E mount shooters can't get no respect. Shame on you Sony!!!!!

What next, an A6700 with an A7 style body and controls? A6800 with the same and a 30MP BSI sensor? Unbelievable :-D

This is on the a6300 as well no?
I don't think it used the full array of 425 AF points. I could be wrong.

P.S. Three 6300's on sale at FM this morning. The early adopters are mobilizing. :-)

To be fair, no one really upgrades lenses much but bodies people will recycle whenever they see some new features they neeed/want. Not everyone will need or want these new features, or at least right now. Sony is just giving out options, it doesn't always mean you have to upgrade, it's there if you want it or need it.

And what about your X-t2, Hans?

I think it does. Anyways the use of A-mount lenses will be THERE better on the A6500 because they have no ILIS and are made for cameras with IBIS.

People don't upgrade lenses because there are no lenses to upgrade to :-D

Look at all the very basic lenses Fuji has that E mount doesn't..... but it's easier to add features to a body than develop a full lens lineup

Oh Sony....

Sony does not lack lens. What Sony lacks is lens choice. They give you lots of choices for body, but not for lens. Take MFT as an example, almost all FL has a couple of choices and people can choose based on their budget or IQ/size/weight requirement.

The X-T2 is still on backorder, but should be here pretty soon. I'm more and more leaning towards using the Sony system for video, and the Fuji for stills. Sony has very nice lenses specifically for video like the 18-105/4 while Fuji seems to focus solely on stills lenses. They have no decent powered zoom lenses as far as I know.

Of course both systems kinda overlap, but that doesn't bother me. I really need to try out the Fuji quite a bit longer to get a decent opinion on it and then I'll see what suits me best.

I will also stay with my A6300 but probably add the A6500 a while after it has been available and tested. I like to have two camera bodies; I guess I will say good bye to my A6000 some time then.
