F828 This time for real: VERY suspect

Hi, I'm french and I just bought the magazine :
everything is REAL !!!

or perhaps the journalist made a fake ............
BUT, I think it's real too. At least, the curve on the body to the
lower-right of the hot-shoe, which is needed for a swivel body,
seem very SONY

I m very suspicious of this post for many reasons... To name a few:

1. The poster just joined TODAY... who is this double character?
Even the name is suspicious. Could it be a "double" of one of our
own stf'ers?

2. The image of the camera looks a little strange. If it is a
"photochop" it is the best we have seen so far, but it still looks
suspicious. Maybe its the lighting, but the area where it is
supposed to swivel looks odd. As someone else mentioned, that grip
and button design looks very Nikon-esque.

3. Why would it say 7x zoom in that spot. In the other F cameras
the zoom rating is on the lens, hmmmm.

4. Why would this French magazine be the only one with this
information? If they can release this info shouldn't everyone else
with the info be able to as well? Why is there only ONE bad photo
of the camera?

I for one will be a little surprised if this is the real deal. But
I don't rule it out as a possibility I guess.

I guess that is the case... from the bigger pic it looks like it says 7x OPTICAL Zoom. So I guess now that they have such an impressive zoom lens, the digital zoom is not as important, from a marketing standpoint.

. Plus, why would
it not say 14x zoom to include the digital zoom like the other F
cameras? Maybe Sony has changed its marketing strategy as far as
that goes?

I wondered why this small magazine, which has no website or name recognition (to speak of) would have this information.

However, this is nOT the first time a small company / magazine got a "scoop" or leaked information, then posted this information to the public.

I can't speak for people in France.... maybe this is a high profile magazine there?

Would be REALLY fun if someone would upload the article... translated of course LOL

It doesn't have a website that's true, but it's a pretty high profile magazine over here yes.
Translation: ok in a hurry though as I'm going out too dinner.
(Not this follows on from an article about the new sensor)

It's nice to develop a new sensor but it also needs a body to put it in.

To the victor the spoils and Sony are the first to launch their 8mp camera scheduled for the end of the year, at a price as yet unknown.

It's called the DSC-828. We handled a prototype at the 'Saint of Saints' in Tokyo.
As the name suggests, it's built on the same 2 part body as the 717.

Its enormous lens signed 'Carl Zeiss' gives a good range and an interesting speed: 28-200mm, F2-2.8.

The zoom operates manually by the use of a concentric ring in order to cover the range more quickly.

Th EVF has 235,000 pixels but we couldn't judge its quality on the 'mock -up' unveiled at Tokyo
Patience Patience...

That's all, sorry the info about the noise reduction was in the article about the 4 colour, 8mp sensor.

That's the best I can do, not too much info there.

This IS a serious mpagazine though and I'v' never known them to fool around in 3 years of reading it.

With so many V-1 owners joining in into these discussions on the new rabbit-out-of-the-hat has any of them spared a glance on the front panel of his pride and joy? I don't own one, but all the pictures accessible to me right here show it displaying "4 x Zoom"!!!

And under this link here on Phil's great site:

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonydscv1/page2.asp

I can read the following: "..... Sony's new Smart Zoom will only digital zoom if doing so does not compromise image quality (thus only at lower resolutions)...."

Has no one yet thought of the faint possibility that Sony might have had the bright idea to include at least some of the V-1's advanced features in their new flagship? :-)

Probably just the Sony lab there where the Keebler Elves make the new whiz bang cameras. Only a select few are allowed in that room I am sure.
So what is this "Saint of Saints" in Tokyo??? I not pulling
anything up on the web about it :(

Heheheheh... some kind of 'holy of holies' where if you touch the untouchable devices, you're immediately smitten with boils and leprosy for releasing information before the embargo date. Heheheh... those guys are toast by now. :-]

If I recall, saint de saints basically means "the most sacred place." Basically, an idiom of 'mock reverence' indicating that the editors were in the 'holy land' of Sony digital cameras.

I just didn't know that they employed the Keebler Elves in THE LAB. That would explain a few things. ;-)

Howdy.
So what is this "Saint of Saints" in Tokyo???

The fastest Canon ZOOM is the 16-35 F2.8L, and no, the $1400 price tag is not a typo. On the other hand, Panansonic has a f2.8 constant aperture on a 12X zoom!
The dimage doesn't even go to f/2 so why use them as an example of
what can or can't be done?!?!
Because wide aperture and wide angle don’t go well together in lenses.

Chouette, a leak from a French photo rag.

Seems that several months ago Sony planned on the 828 (1) having an 8mp RGBE sensor, and a 7x optical 28-200 F2.0-2.8 lens. Chouette.

It will be interesting to see how similar the production camera (TBA Saturday?) is to this mock-up. The above features will probably stay, but I expect some 'modification' to that styling.

No indication whether RAW was a planned feature, but it sure would be nice (and entirely consistent for a camera and sensor created for 'consommateurs experts'). Guess we'll have to wait for Saturday.

Howdy.

Too bad the 'tingle' didn't hit this morning, when this was first posted. My radar must be way off. That's twice this week I missed the parade. (And this seems to be a parade worth watching!)

Howdy.
