I m very suspicious of this post for many reasons... To name a few:

1. The poster just joined TODAY... who is this double character? Even the name is suspicious. Could it be a "double" of one of our own stf'ers?

2. The image of the camera looks a little strange. If it is a "photochop" it is the best we have seen so far, but it still looks suspicious. Maybe its the lighting, but the area where it is supposed to swivel looks odd. As someone else mentioned, that grip and button design looks very Nikon-esque.

3. Why would it say 7x zoom in that spot. In the other F cameras the zoom rating is on the lens, hmmmm.

4. Why would this French magazine be the only one with this information? If they can release this info shouldn't everyone else with the info be able to as well? Why is there only ONE bad photo of the camera?

I for one will be a little surprised if this is the real deal. But I don't rule it out as a possibility I guess.

This looks like the real deal to me, and the timing of the leak is at least consistent with previous leaks for the F707 and F717. The image looks like a snapshot, typical photoshopped images are nice studio shots.

The body style is obviously different, so I would not expect anything to be the same as it was, labels, buttons, etc.

I say real

My New camera is almost here

I think that the lens speed 2.0-2.8 would be impossible for the focal range 28-200. Look at parameters of Minolta 7i and Nikon 5000 (5400).

...but the possibility has me all, well, tingly!

I also vote real. But I had to think on it. Magazines are often put together months in advance...which is why most of us don't read photography mags anymore, they are behind the times by the time they hit the streets. So I can picture this French magazine being given a look at a mock up 2 months ago, being told to sit on it till release date, and simply goofing...or even, Sony allowing them a "leak"...actually choosing them because they are obscure, counting on the frenzy to spread the word.

Anyway, I hope we know soon....

Amazing what we can do with just three crayons, red green and blue!

Those are very good points, but I can't help but remain suspicious. I always consider the source when I get info like this, and we don't know this guy, "double". And it still seems very strange tht the zoom rating would be on the camera and not the lens, a design change does not warrent breaking that convention. Plus, why would it not say 14x zoom to include the digital zoom like the other F cameras? Maybe Sony has changed its marketing strategy as far as that goes?

Oh well, I guess only time will tell :)

Anyone noticed that dcresource will be posting "hot stuff" on 15 august? and also something special on 20 august? They all seem to enjoy teasing us

Don't you mean that they don't go together in compact lenses.

Since this lens looks quite a bit bigger (from what we can see in the pic) than the F717, I don't see why the camera can't achieve F2.0.

-A
Because wide aperture and wide angle don’t go well together in lenses.

Yes that was noted and we're hoping it is the Sony info. He tends to get Sonys early.

That seems to be newly added. I'm going with a Canon announcement.

You better start saving you money for the camera and the NEW accessory lenses. We are not looking at a $1k camera here

Granted it's a lot smaller lens 34-102 with a F2-F2.5 But the lens opening was much smaller then the this new sony!

Dang I gotta buy new lenses too, LOL! Guess I'll have to sell my first born when he / she gets here. Due around Oct 15th probably just in time, eh :)

You may be right if this picture is real.. the diameter of the from of that lens looks slightly larger than the 7x7. And I suppose that makes sense given the specs. If that is the case the current lenses would cause too much vignetting :( There goes my bank account.

Their 28mm f/1.8 lens is impossible then, if you tell them, the lens will poof out of existence hehehe

Minolta lens is 2 years old technology. I think it's very possible to get 28-200 F2.0. The question is how good it is. I hope it's not the same situation when canon upgrade G series from 3x zoom to 4x zoom, from 4 MP to 5 MP.

btw, bravo sony for jumping 2 step in one time, lens zoom (7x) and CCD size 8 MP.

I invested in the accessory lenses too. Paid dearly to Sony, too.

Some good news. The 828 may not be here unitll later than your blessed event. It would be kinda hard to tell the new mother to pinch pennies right after the baby, but it is a new camera!

...charge me what you have to Sony! Heck, charge me an extra $50 and put it straight into the 900 series!

I can't find the website of this magazine. It was refered to in a few places, but doesn't have a website. I wonder how big this mag is and why would Sony trusted them with the new release of the cam?

BUT, I think it's real too. At least, the curve on the body to the lower-right of the hot-shoe, which is needed for a swivel body, seem very SONY
