I'm definitely going with this cam when it comes here in November. Sending my junky TG-Tracker back.

The Sony has: higher resolution in 4K. much better low-light performance. And, of course, BOSS. You cannot shoot with any GoPro handheld in 4K and not get shaky cam.How does it compare with the GoPro Hero 4 Black at 4K?
Thank you. It's fun.Just want to say thanks for the detailed opinions and framegrabs. Great stuff!
From what I see, it doesn't affect the IQ at all.Markr041 said:Using the included waterproof case.
Choose 2160p to view.
4K frame grabs:
Yes, the case has no impact on the picture. However, the camera will heat up much faster in the airtight case, and on a hot day one should not shoot with the case on unless water shots are needed. If the camera gets too hot it will degrade the IQ before shutting down. From what I see, it doesn't affect the IQ at all.

Unless the trip is around and underwater, the RX100 IV is preferred because it is much more versatile. It has a zoom lens and wide aperture. It will be better in low light, and you have more control over the picture (more manual controls). That is why the camera is more 2.5X the price.Mark...if you had to choose between the rx100iv or x3000 to take with you for the express purpose of filming in 4k video (no stills, or 1080p video) on a vacation type trip, what would it be?
Doesn't the RX have severely limited recording time? And can the RX offer stabilization nearly as well as the BOSS?Unless the trip is around and underwater, the RX100 IV is preferred because it is much more versatile. I better be mindful of that when I attach it to my car in the summer months. The desert heat is ruthless, to say the least.Yes, the case has no impact on the picture. 5 minutes for the RX in 4K, and it does overheat in high ambient temperatures so you don't even get that in those circumstances. Yes, the RX stabilization is less good, but it is ok.Doesn't the RX have severely limited recording time? Yes, certainly do not use the waterproof case! The air movement produced by the moving car helps cool too.I better be mindful of that when I attach it to my car in the summer months. Are you traveling with your two lens Panasonic GX85 kit now? Or, do you still favor the tiny RX100 IV? I'm still liking the Panasonic LX100 I bought when you were enjoying that one!5 minutes for the RX in 4K, and it does overheat in high ambient temperatures so you don't even get that in those circumstances. Here is a travel video taken with the RX100 IV:
It depends very much what you want to shoot. You cannot do portraits using the X3000, for example (UWA lens).
GX85+two lenses (maybe three (add tiny 20mm f1.7 for low light)). and maybe take the X3000, in case it rains! Are you traveling with your two lens Panasonic GX85 kit now? The X1000 is not sharper. The main, and very important gain, is that you get the best stabilization technology in all cameras. This enables you to shoot 4K handheld without shaky cam or degradation in resolution. No other action cam can or will do this. In addition, the X3000 lens produces less fisheye distortion and the low light performance is better compared with the X1000. The X3000 has a much better waterproof case - no distortion underwater.Hi,
I was planning to get the X1000 this fall for my outdoors activity but now I see the more compact X3000 to be released I think in November here in Canada.
And I see some places with the X1000 on sale already, well some 100$ rebate or so...
But my question is, for someone like me who needs an action cam to take some quality souvenir footage during the outdoors adventures, and not change the cam every year or so, is it worth it the price for the X3000 or the X1000 can be as good? Also some pointed the fact that the X1000 quality seems sharper?
Thanks

Especially if you want to use the camera for many years you want to spend a little now to have better results over a long period. The difference in current price will be $100 between the two models.
Thanks.Mark,
Thank you so much for your review. Every week I'd be googling more about this camera. I'm excited it's getting a North American release in a week or two.
First impression finally seeing it on Vimeo, wow the colors are fantastic. I'm not sure how Sony is claiming no pixel binning though? In the spec it says sensor 8.1MP but still images are somehow 12MP? Unless it implies it's cropping in on the 12MP sensor similar to the a7R II/a63000's Super35 mode.
Some requests/burning questions:
4K time-lapse test? Rolling shutter test? DId you get the lens protector? If so could you upload some footage with that on?
Have you run into overheating yet? Others have reported that.
Does the remote have GPS built-in? Is it shockproof? Both of these feature were in the previous live-view remote.
Thanks a bunch! Keep up the great work. This has the potential to be an incredible travel camcorder/B-roll.
