So I'm in between a few cameras, the samsung nx30, Canon rebel t5i video creator kit or Canon Eos m3 video creator kit. I worry about the Canon m3 and the nx30 because of lenses selection and worry about the m3 and t5i because of only 30fps. So I ask, which one for great video and good photography?

But if I had to pick, I'd go with the T5i. Samsung is a dead system. EOS M might die at any point. The T5i is a perfectly capable video and still camera.

Compare video quality to a GH2:

Switch Youtube to 1080P, and watch full screen. See the difference in detail? The GH2 has true 1080p. Canon's is a little bit blurry -- similar resolution to 720p.

On the other hand, 720p is plenty for most purposes.

You should make sure you are miked correctly for what you're doing. There's no such thing as a generic microphone. The idea of camera + mike is a little bit silly.

I know you wanted a mic jack. What kind of video? How will you be focusing?

I'm fine with manual focus, auto would be nice but i have had practice with manual and i am comfortable with it. Just videos of walking around, holding it in my hand most of the time, no tripod or anything. Home videos if you will. I liked the m3 for its size but the lens selection scares me. Then again lenses scare me in general. I plan just to use a kit lens for awhile until I do a long zoom. A view finder option affected my choice.

Did you have focus peaking? Dont think t5i has it

Stabilized lenses and sensor stabilization can be helpful

If that is all you want then the m3 has it

I don't know which 1" cameras have a mic jack. Yeah T5i would be really low on my list

Almost no sensor stabilization works with video.

Lens stabilization usually does work, but often messes with the audio on lenses not designed to be quiet.

I looked over the T5i specs. It's surprisingly not bad. It's not competitive with a GH2, mind you, but definitely not bad. Dual pixel AF. 64 manual audio levels. Full manual controls. Has all the basics. A mode doesn't work in video, which I'd mind quite a bit.

So now it's between the m3 and t5i. Half of me is like "DSLR, GET IT!!!" and the other half, "That is one nice and compact camera that can do everything the t5i can but no built in evf". I'm so torn.

What.......maybe I should have said IBIS. Yes sony a7 em10s, gx, IBIS does work in video with a few hiccups

Yes. The op is using a mic which will help with this

On paper.....

Video is not a strong subject for me. The dual pixel on the t5i seems to have issues. No focus peaking for MF. It is an interesting tool but for run and gun I see some serious limitations

Sony does have mic input dongles for selected models that have accessory contacts in the hot shoe. There is a compatibility chart at:

www.sony.net/Products/diacc/compatibilities/microphone/

The a5100 isn't listed, so likely doesn't support that feature.
Not a good solution. The adapter is quite expensive and doesn't work with any sub <$600 cameras. The only Sony solution in this price range would be a used NEX-7.

So your saying the m3? Also I see you have a Olympus m10. How do you like that camera?

So your saying the m3?
Between the two? With a heavy emphasis on video? Yes
Also I see you have a Olympus m10.
Sold it. Need to update my gear
How do you like that camera?
I actually did like it in a way. I would recommend it to people in a heartbeat and often do. It can be found underived $300 used and refurb these days. It just wasn't for me. I would go into detail but it is irrelevant. I do not remember a mic jack.

The problem with the m3 for me is price and lack of features for the price 1080p only 30fps and no evf built in but I plan to buy the external one. I loved the m10's specs but no mic jack is a deal breaker. If only the a5100 had external mic support and evf. Shame on you sony.

What can be said for the gh2's photo quality compared to the Canon Eos m3 or the Lumix g7? All these cameras have the features I want :)

my guess is m3 and g7 would be close enough. The gh2 is quite a bit older. I cannot give much of a comparison because the gh2 is completely foreign to me and I have little experience with the other 2. Sorry

Overall the g7 probably has the most complete package but if you don't get any traction try the appropriate forum for the M. You may get better answers there

GH2 sensor is similar to an EOS M2 sensor, and all else being equal, will deliver similar photgraphic quality. An M3 sensor will be a bit better than either.

All else isn't equal. The sensor matters less than the lens. Canon E-mount has around a dozen lenses available.

Panasonic/Olympus/MFT/Kodak/Kowa/Voigtlander/Yashura/Tokina/Tamron/Sigma/Rokinon/Kenko/etc. make around a hundred lenses. Many times that if you count oddballs like Fujian adapted lenses.

I could take better stills with a GH2 system than with EOS M system.

G6 is similar to GH2. I'm not sure how much better G7 is.

The way I see it, the g7 used at b&h is a great deal, compared to a new m3. The gh2 would be a good camera if it had 60fps and not 60 interlaced. That matters a lot to me in terms of slow motion capability. So g7 it is. Thanks for the help.

120 fps......

behind the g7 a bit in IQ but if you will not be changing lenses could be a bargain.......dunno about mic jack......

Though 120 fps would be nice, I really want interchangeable lenses. But still a good deal none the less.

Just putting it out there
