This is for my parents, they are pretty much computer illiterate and have a fuji Mx1300. They use Xp and yahoo webmail, any program that will reduce the pics to email size would be great.

Irfanview can make thumbnails, and it's absolutely free. It's also a rather good image viewer.

I've heard good things about ThumbsPlus as well, but have never used it.

I dont thin Irfan can do what you are asking "making digital photos smaller in size for emailing etc..."

If you are looking for a image compression utility I would suggest Real Optimizer + ACDSee
here is the link below:

The beauty is the slide bar for compression, you can see how the new image looks on the fly rather than after its done.

Irfanview is great for image viewing, but for a simple and easy RealOptimizer saves me a ton of time in Web Design.

Good Luck

You can right click an image and choose to email it. At that point, it asks if you want to make the image smaller and sends it to your default email program. It does an excellent job and I'd recommend taking a look at that functionality before installing/or buying additional apps. just for this purpose.

Irfanview can do all kinds of resizing, for web, email, or you name it. It's an extremely powerful little program for being entirely free.

If at first you don't succeed, you're running about average..

Thanks, this is probably the best option for my retired parents. They are just coming to terms with computers and this should be the easiest option for them.

I appreciate everyones help.

In fact it's one of the best image resizers and batch resizers I've ever seen. The only problem with XP's resizer is it drops the new images into the same directory.
