Simply 25% to 30 % more than the V1 (minimum). Price has to do with product positioning within the vendor's range and the competition more than actual design and manufacturing cost. Furthermore, Sony knows that such a prosumer camera is aimed at enthusiasts (such as people contributing to this forum)... who are ready to pay a little extra.

I know that's really two different prices but exchange rates don't seem to matter when it comes to advertising. Why so cheap? Well even Sony need to appear to have a heart when we find none of the 7*7 bits fit the new 62mm thread, the new shape needs a new $100 case and then there's the non-pre MS PRO compatibility "issue", proprietry "PRO" tripod connector, new "enhanced" ACC "PRO" two pin remote control connector and the fact you'll need an $800 Clie bluetooth PDA to use as a viewfinder if you actually want to take photos. Which can only be read by PictureGear 5.1 "PRO". $150 rrp.

Or am I being a bit cynical?

I wonder if they will send an early release model so I don't have to wait until mid-November! November's a long ways away!

The price range of prosumer cameras has been coming down a bit, but I still think RGBE sensor is not the only surprise Sony has in it sleeve... 8MP sensor and same price range with G5? No way! Pice of 828 will be 142% of G5!
