Pixel vertax battery pack for d500

I bought this grip and I'm impressed with the quality. I was worried because I bought it on Ebay and it was coming form China but the grip works great and worked with my Nikon battery without any problems. I highly recommend it.

Looks OK. Any idea of the construction materials? I use Nikon battery grips with the D300 and D700 with a black rapid strap going into the base of the grips. Would this one stand up to the same forces with say a 24-70mm attached to the base tripod top hat plate? Normally the Nikon ones have worked without fault but the current D500 grip is really expensive at present. It looks like a good solid fit between the camera and grip.

Does it have the extra Fn button?

Is the AF button programmable?

Not sure of the material but it is solid and fit great to the camera. It doesn't feel like plastic if that's what you are wondering. It looks and feels like an original.

I expect it would have felt similar as it has a similar rubber coating. No, I'm concerned at how tough the tripod mount is on it.

Tripod mount is fine. I've used it a couple times. Holds tight.

I ended up ordering the meike one from ali-express and a day later the amazon.co.uk listing was changed. Its in the post so I've not received it yet.

Whats the story with the Batteries?

Do you need a genuine battery in the camera and the grip will work with a clone/3rd party battery.

If you want to use AA batteries do you still need a genuine Nikon Battery in the camera?

I had thought some grips provided a Dummy insert that goes inside the battery compartment and has contacts out to the grip that fools the camera into thinking there's a real battery inserted.

I don't know about third party grips but you don't need a battery in a camera with the Nikon grips at all. I don't see any reason for a third party grip to be different.

Third party batteries however may still not work that well due to the voltage curve set up on the 02 series batteries but who knows until they try? I would expect AAs and the larger Nikon battery to behave as normal due to their higher initial voltages.

Have you tried it with AA batteries yet. I've just read an Amazon review saying the Meike grip isn't working with the AA tray and only with the 02 version of the Nikon battery in the grip works.

I don't know about the Meike grip but the Pixel works perfectly. I've only used the Nikon batteries. I don't trust AA for use with camera grips. You'll just have to give the pixel Grip a try. It's worth the $80 vs the $400 that you would spend on a Nikon grip.

AA's are all I ever used with the Zeikos grip on my D300. I only wanted it for the 8 FPS it provided using AA NiMH Batteries ... and it worked very well. Battery life on the D300 is not an issue without the grip, but it appears to be so on the D500. So I also would like to know if these aftermarket grips work with AA batteries on the D500.

Yes they do

Just received the pixel vertax grip. It works fine, on the D500. I will not be using AA batteries with this camera's grip. I tried them with the D810, to increase burst rate for sports, and in DX mode they increased frame rate to 7FPS. But with the D500, there is really no need to use anything, but the en-el15 battery in the grip. No matter what battery you use, the frame rate remains the same 10fps. In addition, while AA batteries work fine, they tend to expire quicker than the camera's native battery. If I really needed a different battery, for longer sustainability, I would go the route using the En-El18 battery from the D4, 5 series. I am not sure the Pixel-Vertax would take such a battery, and so would have to consider a different grip for that purpose.

Hi guys,

Assuming same quality, between Meike and Pixel Vertax, which one is smaller or closer to the size of OEM MB-D17 grip dimension?

The Pixel model looks bigger than OEM from looking at the pictures but not sure...

Also does Meike model has the 'MEIKE' logo on the front of the grip?

thanks guys!

Just got the Meike grip have not had a chance to test it fully but got some pics up on a separate thread which I've a link to below. Comparing the pictures I would swear they were the same product but noticed one or two little differences.

The Meike one does have the logo on the front of the grip.

There is a screw hole on the pixel grip that looks like the hole is closer to the edge of the battery grip than on the Meike.

The Pixel Shutter Button looks more shiny (and possibly better) than the Meike? this is just a guess it may not be true. and the white dots are positioned a bit different. The Meike has an extra button which I'm guessing is to pair it with the remote control that comes with it. (The Pixel does not have a remote control that comes with it)

The battery trays look slightly different between the Meike/Pixel. The Pixel has some writing on the side nearest the battery contacts and the Meike has none but has some raised ridges in that area but other than that they look the same.
