Only wish it was E-mount and stabilized - but then it would probably be too pricey :)

To be fair it depends on what you compare it too. I bought mine at the launch of the Mk1 and it was so much better than the equivalent third party and OEM zoom lenses at the time. Both Nikon and Canon had their Mk1 80-400 and 100-400 zooms and the Sony really beat them hands down (I have friends with both). Now both have been fully updated, the Sony has lost the edge. I'm not sure if the Sony Mk2 is all that much better IQ wise though it does focus faster. The Canon 100-400 Mk2 is probably the one to beat nowadays.

I've certainly had my moneys worth out of it and have thousands of lovely sharp images from it. Now everyone has caught up and the third party long zooms have closed the gap. If you want better IQ, you need to consider primes. I've never regretted buying it.

PS I should add that I'm using a Nikon 70-200 f4 on the D7200 and that is a very good lens but has a little colour fringing at the edges.

They say it is the same optically.

Indeed. My sense is though, that it is mainly about tc compatibility, af and IS off course. I imagine that it could be different on a higher res camera, such as the 5DSR the 70 wide end is useful as well though.

Glad to hear it, expecting the same!

One of few lenses that I pre-ordered and never looked back.... fabulous lens.

I use it heavily [even today] along with the Sony 500mm f4 which is another beautiful lens and worth every penny!
