Camera/Brand Shaming ... C'mon son 'nuff already.

A-holes abound in all walks of life.
+1

I agree and I would add that no amount of internet posting is going to change this.

My response would have been. "Okay thank you for the advice, take care". Then carry on.

Like all schoolhouse bullies, insults are intended to incur a response. If you deny that response, the insult fails.
They also need an audience to show them how 'clever' or 'funny' he is. If there were say4 of you using Canon gear, he would be nowhere to be seen :-D

:-):-):-)

After reading your comments and reading several others I have to stay you people may need to start hanging around places that are a little higher class.

I've been involved with photography many years and have Never and I mean Never had anyone walk up to me and say anything derogatory about what camera I was using.

If that actually happened to you then I would suspect the person was some immature imbecile who makes about $100.00 a year (or maybe less) at photography and considers himself a professional.

Sounds like either a made up story (sorry about that) or that the guy and his friends were either drunk or total nerds.
These people exist. I was in a big box electronics store named Fry's and was buying a cheap 16GB SD card for my daughter's old P&S camera. The checkout clerk asked me if I was into photography to upsell to a better/faster memory card. I explained the card was for my daughter's old camera so I didn't need a fast card, but added that I used Sony mirrorless and my wife used Canon. He frowned and says "Why? Everyone knows Nikon is best quality?" I just said "I am pretty happy with my camera." We didn't really talk after that, but when he hands me the receipt he says "Nikon best quality." and shook his head as I walk away.
If you had hung around in the shop for a while, I wonder if the next customer that looked at a Nikon would be told, "Canon's the best quality"!! Some people just want to look like they know better than everyone else.

Nah, don't talk to me about your gear unless...

...you have a custom-made digital medium format camera and two assistants both armed with Profoto flashes...

...and I knew your name the moment I saw you.

My bet is that he was no pro. Real pros don't care and/or bother with that stuff. They shoot great images consistently with whatever gear they have and get paid. End of story.

Well a lot of Sony users are using Canon glasses. I am one of them and I appreciate Canon for having some lenses that are not available in the Sony E mount line up.

I am no expert but I have used quite a few different system of cameras and they all have different strengths and weaknesses it's more about what I need and want when choosing which brand to use.

There's no conflict at all I don't get the brand shaming and bashing. Just choose whichever suits you most at the time and go take some pictures.
Amen.

I was thinking that too.

By the way...

The photo I was taking at the car show when the incident began, came out just fine. See below.

Its a good shot, but I am not sure it has that "Pro" look. Just imagine how much better this would have come out if you had been using Nikon?

Just kidding obviously, I like it.

LOL. Funny :-)

Basically, there are two options:

1. Either the guy made an attempt at humour. It might have been a joke for his friends, or maybe for you if you had just saw his camera beforehand, but as far as I am concerned, it is a very poor attempt at making a joke.

2. The guy is a jerk. He would also be rude in other aspects of life.

Being optimistic, I would opt for option 1, unless proven otherwise.
