So, I have an X-pro2, love it, and have no desire to own a XT-2, or anything else for that matter.

One thing I do find though, is that I am doing a little more video... i'd say I'm still around 70/30 photo and video, but 30% of a lot is still, well, a lot.

With the upcoming update, I know everyone is hot for 4k, but I really don't care about it. I don't need the res, and frankly, my 2011 Macbook Air just wouldn't survive if I tried to edit 4k on it.

I will be a little miffed though, if Fuji doesn't think about passing along some of the other features of the X-T2 that there is clearly no technical impediment to... here's my wish list:

1. F-log recording: This would be an awesome addition, and could be done in camera with 1080p with no problem. I would then be free to either shoot with a film simulation, or F-log and grade in Davinci later.

2. Simulation adjustments in video: My understanding is that in the new X-T2, tone adjustments to simulations actually effect video. Not so in every other Fuji body. This would be huge, and would improve the control I have over my final output.

3. Fuji keeps talking about how "the x-pro2 and x-t2 have different target markets..." This may be true, but if that's true, why should my X-pro2 not get the customizable AF just like the X-T2? I would suggest different presets- to reflect it's different use:

a- "Portrait"-to detect subtle movements, and maintain focus on eye
b- "Children"- to maintain focus on erratically moving subjects
c- "Candid/Street"- To capture the action as it enters the frame at smaller apertures

What do you guys think?

I love fuji, and the X-pro2, but would be a little bummed if a camera released for the same price only a few months later, retains exclusivity on so many features that could be useful, just to clear up their questionable market positioning.

Different target does not mean fuji xpro2 can't have a new custom af seting.

Fujifilm is moving in the wrong way , and xpro2 the hurried introduction of this year.

I might be misremembering, but maybe some of the X-T2 features (like 4K) are hard to port to the X-pro2 due to overheating problems.

Also a little disappointed by Fuji right now. Releasing a new camera after 6 months with new exclusive features is very Sony-like, and one of the big reason I left them.

When buying the X-Pro2, I thought I was making a good investment, that Fuji will care for their "flagship".

I'm ok with no 4K, but AF not being on par with XT-2 just doesn't make any sense.

Fuji is making a big marketing mistake by letting people present the XT-2 as a superior machine to X-Pro 2 in my opinion....

Still, I put things in perspective. The hype is huge on XT-2 right now just like when the X-Pro2 was out. Only reviews out are the one from X photographers and I have learned now they are absolutely void of content. So it seems now like the XT-2 is this fantastic beast, but let's see when it hits the hands of real people and what the october fw update for X-Pro 2 will contain :)

That would be right if they released a "X-pro3"... Besides that, the X-T2 was long due, and we all now that it would be coming this year.

I haven't even mentioned:

quote from x-pro2 press release-

" Rugged and reliable body that is ready for anything professional users can throw at it."

Now all of a sudden per Fuji it's-

"good for snapshots and discreet street photography"

Hmmmm.

you could argue that in that case- it's actually worse. At least Sony makes the updated features available... For $3299!

it seems that many of the new features won't be available to me at any price.

i get no 4K. We all knew it was coming, and likely to be xt only. But every other software feature should also come to the pro. If it turns out the af difference is hardware based, I'd say that's also a problem.

So, are you saying that the X-T / X-pro lines should fundamentally converge, on features and performances?

Not at all... Just on performance.

if the 2 bodies are price comparable- they should both get the absolute best performance that the hardware/software permit.

thats all I'm saying.

Well, Fuji has a good history of firmware and feature updates, even for much older models (i.e. X-E2). I don't know, but accusing Fuji to be Sony-like just 'cause they diversify their models doesn't sounds fair. I'd say let's just wait and see how it goes.

Anyway, just my two cents.

Point of fact- I never actually raised the Sony comparison.

That said, it seems we agree more than not. I simply hope that Fuji gives the x-pro2 as many features as it can and doesn't create an artificial separation between the two models.

Their history does indeed make me hopeful that they will do this, and firmware 2.0 may well contain more updates than they listed.

Quite expensive for a snapshot camera!

I couldn't care less. I love my X-Pro2 and do not really care about cool on paper specs. Fuji is right... different target markets and I've bought into the X-Pro2 completely. The X-T2 doesn't do it for me.

Sounds like a lot of bitter people bought the wrong camera due to GAS and now regret it because the newer camera came to market... typical dpreview.

This is nonsense. There is no proof that Fuji did anything wrong with the X-Pro2. Quite the contrary.

Fuji has stated that the Pro2 will get the new AF system in October, just without the ability to customize the presets.

The T2 has a larger heatsink than the Pro2 so anything that generates heat through too much processing will be restricted to the T2.

I agree, four years is a long time.
But look, xpro2 and XT2 be introduced within a year with a different specs .Fujifilm want to direct users to think it's same hardware, but I don't believe it's true. They just bring a little on October fw update.

X-Pro2 specs were available when you bought the camera. Fuji doesn't owe you new features, though I understand you have been spoiled and come to expect them. Try that with Sony.

They can't magically make every model identical in functionality, the software updates they do deliver--given the differences between models--is a significant headache for them in terms of QA, and they deserve praise for the new features they do deliver to cameras post-release.
