I stopped by one of my favorite wetlands on the way home from work and spent an hour or so taking pics on Thursday. Here are some of the birds I saw.

Comments and suggestions are welcome.

Eastern kingbird. They are somewhat rare in northern Utah. I know of one other pair up in the mountains.

Here is a Western kingbird is the same area, taken on a different day.

Greater or Lesser yellow legs? Either one, shouldn't this bird be up in the arctic this time of year?

Evan,

Nice shots. I got some decent shots of an Eastern Kingbird when I visited Bear River the first of June. I'm pretty certain that is a Greater Yellowlegs. Lesser Yellowlegs are about the size of a Killdeer. Several Greater Yellowlegs have been reported around the Bear River Area. See this eBird Checklist:

Fantastic set of photos, those came out very, very nice.

Another great set. Glad you got a Western Kingbird. Keep checking them off your list!

What can I say, Evan? But another outstanding series!

Kingbirds: I don't seem to have any luck with photographing them. I guess I need to find where a Western Kingbird hangs out and stake it out with the blind. But here you have not only a Western but an Eastern too! Dang your luck!

Love the Coot with the chick - both pictures.

I am not that good at waders, they all confuse me so I have not idea if they are greater or lesser yellowlegs. But they are great images.

You and your 300mm capped-out lens keep showing the rest of us it is not the equipment, it is the photographer!

Thanks for posting, and looking forward to your next outing picts!

Excellent shots. My favorites are the egrets. Thanks for sharing.

I went with lesser yellow legs on this one. This is from the Yukon Territories about a month ago, so yeah yours needs to get moving!

Nice shots. Thanks for posting.

Evan,

Great job on these images. You ran into a very nice variety of species on this day.

Thanks for posting.

fwiw... I noticed that more of these images were rule-of-thirds type crops. :)

Setting white point on the snowy egrets will improve the color a bit. Here's a suggested crop and edit of the kingbird (darken background, brighten and white balance the bird).

I'm glad you noticed! A wise man told me I needed to work on that. ;-)

Hi Sabrina, I really like what you did here. Thanks a bunch for taking the time to help me out with this!!!

I use Nikon ViewNX 2 and FastStone for PP and as far as I know this software is not capable of your suggested white point manipulation.

Unfortunately I just cant justify spending all that money on PhotoShop for what at this point is a fun hobby. Right now I am working on saving the money up for a full frame camera and a good prime lens.

Evan,

Well done, you seem to be able to turn out to me what was a crappy day shooting at the Farmington Bay into a great series of pictures. I did not get any keepers, so will remember the day viewing yours.

Thanks for posting!!
