Just a few pictures I took of a dragonfly on my back porch.

for some reason this first picture is not near as sharp as it is on my computer. When I uploaded it to pbase, it must have lost alot of it's clarity and sharpness. The original picture is in perfect focus and all the pixels on the eyes are in perfect view. Just thought I'd share that : - )

That is a superb macro...you can actually see facial hair on the dragonfly..
Is right here, I accidentally posted the wrong pic.

Go bug hunting, you'll be surprized at how many little critters are out there. Luckily for me, most of my macro's come from right around my house.

This dragonfly was in my screened-in porch and has been there for a few days now. I got the feeling that maybe he is just dying or is very tired. He would let me almost pick him up. He let me get as close to him as I wanted, which was good for me : - )

I don't do heat well and bugs don't do cold well. But there's bound to be a balance and I certainly break many a cobweb each time I go out the door and along the street (grin). I just need to have my camera with me. But I do want to try in the next week or so. I'll keep you posted.

Ping,

these are great. But what interests me the most is how you got hjim to cooperate so well, esp sitting on the finger.

Please share your settings... these macros are just amazing. I've been having problems getting this clarity with my 5700.

I used aperature priority, and allways use manual focus. Be sure to set your aperature at the highest value possible, around f/10 or f/11. Other than that, just keep a steady hand! One other tip, that took me a long time to think about using, is that say your taking a macro of something and you have your manual focus on. Set the manual focus to a very close distance and then litterally move your camera closer or farther from your subject. This way you can have a huge amount of more control in focusing. Just set your manual focus to a certain distance then don't touch it again, just use the zoom and move the actual camera towards or away from your subject. You can acheive some great shots doing this.

haha, well i think this little guy was half dead or something. He had been stuck in my screened in porch for a few days, and I just had noticed him today kind of just sitting on the ground and not being so active. I'm going to have to let him out of my porch if I want him to live : - )

I have a friend that uses macro lenses/filters, but that's only because his camera doesn't have the macro capabilities that the 4500 has : - )

Thanks ! I'll have to play around with manual focus. Still plenty of mysteries with my 5700 but I'm learning !
