Which system has best 'pancake' lens?

The one that fits your cameramount. All of the others suck. For me that would be the Pentax 40mm/f2.8

Your talk did not exactly show off a lens . Talk is cheap.

Encourage people to post images please. A thread like this is boring without images !

NX30mm f2 at f2.8
NX30mm f2 at f2.8

Much better, I like that a lot. Yes agree but then you get no discussion and people posting images of their pancake rather then what they think is best for the OP.

Thanks for the pictures guys, so of you had to chose one MILC and a Pankcake Prime, for say a daytrip in London, what would you choose out of all the options in the market?

most run of the mill pancake lens are about 2.8, if you want a bigger aperture you are likely going to have to get a bigger lens in most systems

I would take my Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 pancake -- it's the only one I have and know about, so no choice to make!

Mounted on my GX7, it would slide into my jacket pocket.

If photographs would help: Reviewing previous trips, I would look for architecture that appealed to me.

Well of course that's true. After you have added the size, weight and cost of an adaptor, why have a pancake?

I bought my DA 40mm Ltd to partner my K-01 , which it does nicely , for walking around .

Looking at others which don't fit my cameras is pointless to me , and I have no reason to look elsewhere .

I own the Panasonic 20mm II and would rank it #2. My favorite pancake lens was the Canon 40mm f/2.8 that I had paired with the 5D/6D. The Panasonic is probably more impressive from an engineering standpoint but in the end the cleaner output and DOF control from the larger sensor can't be overcome. They are both almost equivalently sharp at the same apertures, with the Canon perhaps with the edge. Plus I think the 40mm has a bigger impact on making the 5D/6D portable than the 20mm does on MFT bodies.

Thoughts? Personally I would like to see more pancake primed on Mirrorless systems, do drive home the portability advantage (I say under 3cm length is a pancake).

Thinking Panny 20/1.7 might be the best?
canon EF-M 22mm - zero distortion, CA okay, and sharp from wide open.

and under 200 bucks new.

I don't really like the lens, but to be honest. there's really nothing out there quite like it for optical performance and cost.

the panny?

and that's with the Panasonic 20/1.7 stopped down to 2.0

Yep. I was going to vote for the Canon M and the little 22 mm lens. Quite sharp and small. But it just isn't my favorite focal length.

I hope the E-FM 22mm f2 will stay on sale because I heard from local Canon store that the macro 28mm will replace it.

OK. A chart of how not so good the panasonic is but no image by the Canon 22mm .

Not very impressive image. I prefer the images by the panasonic lens .

Maybe you like this chart ?

only NX-pancake dxomark tested and best canon 16mm I could find . the NX30mm is probably more sharp at larger apertures and f5.6 but what happened to the canon at f5.6 ?

Is the Pentax HD 21mm considered a pancake? I'm not sure if it's by definition a pancake but sure does look small and thin to me. Similarly, Voigtlander 35/1.4 and 35/2.5 both look pretty "pancakey" for me as well and I like them especially the 35/1.4.

Not to mention, the Color-Skopar 21/4, 40/2 SL II, and MS Super Triplet 28mm F4 which should be considered pancakes based on their sizes and should be quite a lens based on reviews.

and here I thought we were talking about pancakes. why would you compare it against a 10 year old 16-35 2.8? which is on full frame versus 16 on a crop? you do realize that 16mm on a crop camera isn't the same as 16m on a full frame? and on a 20mp crop and you're showing it on a 51mp full frame? yeah. okay.

I also notice you stopped down your 16mm..

why? didn't like to show this:

and not to mention that samsung is irrelevant as a system.
