Hello Everyone. My name is Adrianna. I am a owner of Canon eos 70D + 50mm 1.8 lens.

I bought this camera about 2 months ago, when i was upgrading from my canon 600d.

I am not photographer or even not doing photos often. I bought it cuz i am makeup artist and i did use it to photography my makeup. But i must say i feel very dissipointed as there is no difference in quality or even how pics look between canon 70D and 600d.

Now my camera mostly stay in the box and i do not use it, as even when i try to do photos of my child, they not so good as i was expecting too, even on auto mood or manual mood so.

So i starting wondering if there is sens to kkep it or maybe there is some better and easier compact camera for me.

As i run my own company now and i need something to photo my products, i tired last time with my canon and i dont really likle results.

Please brings on your thoughts and share them with me. Adrianna

First of all, please fix your english :-)

Whats wrong with your 70D? It is a great camera and is VERY capable of doing what you need it to do. You should just work with it, and get used to it, so you can use it to its best capabilities.

That's a shame. I assume you're a professional make-up artist so your work is used by photographers and cinematographers. If you've been on studio shoots you've seen the effort they make to get the lighting just right. I guess this is why you've been disappointed, it's not the camera but the lighting, possibly you're not familiar with photography either so it's doubly bad.

Can you ask one of the pros you run into to give you some pointers? I could be as simple as taking a photo of the model with a big bright window behind you or standing the model under a tree. If stuff like that is unfamiliar to you, try looking here or do a Google search for natural light portraits.

Im having two softboxes and one ring light, which i use when trying do my makeup photos. The think is that all this settings are so difficult for me. And i do research and trying a lot, but still the same. I think i might be untalented person for photography...

is there any other compact/mirrorless camera would be good for daily photos, like my family, child. And is going to be good for products photography?

If you could upload a picture (landscape pictogram> insert image from your computer) it would be a fair lot easier to help.

Basicly the 70D is a fine camera and the 50mm 1.8 is regarded as a cheap but very nice lens.

Do you have understanding of AF, metering light, shutter speed, aperture and depth of field?

Do you use software like DPP that came with the camera for editing?

I have some photos, but they normally auto program, and photos are of my family. The other things you ask me i dont understand sorry, i really dont know anything about photography. Thats why i think to replace it with compact. As need something to photograph product and my family.

Well said.

Your Canon cameras are fine for both family and studio shots. Admittedly there are smaller, handier cameras for the family duty. Lots and lots of those to choose from, each of which will have some fans out there. That really should be a separate topic.

For your studio issues, as you have already tried to research this on your own, my suggestion would be to hire a local pro to come in and show you how to set up your gear and 70D for you.

Replacing your camera won't solve your problem. We might do better if we can see some pictures you are disappointed with.

It isn't surprising the 70D looks no better than the 500D, they are both good cameras. You are on the right lines looking at lighting. As others have said you probably need to find someone who takes similar pictures for a living and get advice from them.

Send us pictures.

To be honest, if you don't want or have the time to learn photography you're better of with a compact camera.

Yet still I think you need to understand your subject in order to be able to reproduce a nice picture.

So it is up to you if you want to become more knowledgeable about photography or not.

If you don't you better sell the gear and get a cheaper compact.

Looked up your previous posts and the "look" you want to get.

For somebody with no experience that is aimed very high imho.

You take the pictures, not the camera.

If you aren't using it better sell it, there is no law that says everyone enjoys or is good at photography. I enjoy cooking but can manage doing it for two or three people at most, I really wouldn't have a good time trying to be a chef and cooking for 50 people.

The usual solution is to pay for stock photos online, the old way was to pay someone to do it for you. Taking photos of products is more technical than art, it might be within your reach with a little effort and patience. There is no camera that can guess your intentions, so putting it in manual mode and hoping for the best is the first mistake.

Could you be specific about what you don't like?

The first picture to me look alright, the second is flat (just being honest).

Liked the first, the second is a bit dull, but technically OK.

Do you guys think is good idea to buy Canon EF-S 18-55mm f / 3.5-5.6 IS STM for product photography. As my 50 mm is so close so i need to stand on the chair to be far enought.

As well you think it will be good for some portraits, i like picture my son. But with 50mm 1.8 photos very often seems to be very dark.

The first one is very good. The second one is just a picture of a phone. None of us were any good when we first started. It takes time and patience. What you are trying to do is all about the lighting and depth of field (what's in focus). You need to take your camera out of program mode and switch to aperture priority (A). Then you need to experiment with different apertures to get the look you want. Move the lights around and watch your shadows and highlights. Get them where you want . A different lens may help. Something longer will put more distance between the camera and your subject. Don't give up. Experiment !!

I for got answer your question about the 18-55 lens. NO!! This is just an everyday, do most everything kit lens. An 85mm prime would be a better choice. A 90-100mm macro lens would work too. You don't have to use its macro capabilities. But nothing slower than an f2.8. An f1.4, f1.8 or an f2.0 would be better but they cost more.

No, honestly you just need to spend a bit of time learning about photography. Get a basic book or some lessons. Buying more kit, or selling what you've got isn't the way forward. Product photos are not easy and at first paying for someone to take them makes sense if this is your income.

The think is I need so smaller mm i having 50mm and is pain on the as when coming to family daily photography or even products. Can you guys please recomend some good price and smaller mm lens please?
