I don't think any protector will be able to whitstand the abuse that will damage the screen, so I don't use any. I just wipe the glass clean on occasion with a microfiber cloth.

Since I first purchased the D3 I have never since used screen protectors. I actually found that screen protection caused a greater risk of scratches due to sand being able to find its way in between. So my sincere advice is to stop using them. The D500 screen is rock solid.

thanks for all the advice guys, as its a touch screen its prob best i don't mess, i must admit i hardly use touch but its useful for sweeping through the photos...

I'm using a cut down replaceable one for a smartphone, no problems.

True but 5 years of tapping and swiping friction could severely damage at least some coatings/layers of the protective glass.

One thing I've learned after the D200 is to be very careful with friction and wear on all surfaces - rubber, plastic, glass, etc.. you might not notice it now, but multiply it by a few years and you wonder what the heck you were thinking lol.

That's one of the big reasons I only shoot my sports with a monopod now - cuts the weight/friction on the grips and lenses down to almost zero. D300 looks like it's still new actually (it is DEFINITELY not lol).

As others have said about D750 screen fitting D500 I applied the below JJC screen protector for D750 on back main Lcd of d500 but the top lcd cover was too small but i just applied a iPhone screen protector that I had laying around, cut it and applied on the top lcd.

since it came with 2 packs, i could have used the additional back cover for top lcd by cutting etc...but i messed up the 1st cover main back lcd so i used the 2nd..

Screen protectors are like protective filters - there are proponents for both sides, backed up by personal anecdotal experience. Ever since I managed to put a scratch on my D3 screen, I've used protectors on all subsequent cameras - but that's just me. You'll just have to make your own decision :-)

For what it's worth - I'm using the Nikon LPG-001 screen protector (bought it earlier this year while visiting Japan) - the "touch" screen works fine. Downside is... at 2170 Yen, it's a pricey screen protector.

I presume Kwah you don't use the touch screen then... ? as the protectors obviously disables it ?

I'm sure an LCD protector (like a UV/Skylight filter) is not needed but I have always used both and continue to do so. So for my $2500,00 investment I added this:

Like the UV filter I'm not hoping for drop protection rather my intent is nitwit protection. Maybe a kid or somebody being careless scrapes it with the end of an umbrella or some other unforeseen object. I'd rather replace a UV filter / LCD screen than what its protecting. My lens hood is always on also so really redundant but nonetheless...

How does it work with the touchscreen?

How does it work with the touchscreen?
On my HTC phone I use an Otter phone case complete with plastic screen protector which I'm typing this message. Seems to work OK through the plastic. Why shouldn't a screen protector work on a D500 touchscreen?

The screen protector I linked to in the 2nd post in this thread is a glass protector that I use on my phone. So far it has saved my phone 2 times from shattering.. It's not a flimsy screen protector like they used to make. Works fine on the camera touch screen and my phone touch screen.. They are non adhesive and just go on like magic..

I'm just using a generic screen saver I bought years ago in a pack of 10 off eBay for a htc phone, it operates the touchscreen no differently from having non fitted.

It works fine. Like a good pair of shoes or a good motorcycle seat I don't think about the UV filter or LCD protector, buy it and forget it.

Thanks for this tip Kris, I also got my Expert Shield Glass protector from Amazon UK . Unfortunately my Expert Shield Glass delivery was from a batch delivered before 1st of July, because it didn't have a protection glass for the top Control Panel.

The procedure of using tape hinges, after you have precisely aligned the stiff Glass protector with the "step 1 protective film" still on, works perfect. The glass falls precisely aligned every time you drop it. Here is a good demonstration on Youtube . I used two pieces of tape around the bottom edge of the glass protector/camera.

The D500 touch monitor works perfect with the Expert Shield Glass, without any issues like i.e. the display time out not working, I've seen reported with some screen protectors.

No I haven't contacted them yet, I got mine yesterday. But they brag a lot about their excellent customer service, so I will test if this is just marketing babble :-) I noticed the plastic cover had glue left from removed seals on my delivery, so maybe it was a customer returned sample I got from Amazon UK.

Did you get the glass for the top Control Panel in your delivery?

Mmm, as someone who cracked their D500 LCD screen last week, :-( I query the 'rock solid'. ;-) Would a screen protector have stopped it from breaking? I don't know, but I will be getting one for when I get the camera back from repair. :-)
