I am thinking of upgrading my canon 60d to the canon 7d mark ii. Is this a worthy upgrade considering I am leaning more towards sports use (enthusiast level). The decision to upgrade is based on the fact that the 60d still has some trade in value and I am getting a decent deal on the 7d Mark ii. Anyone shooting lot of portraits and landscapes with this camera? I like to think that a camera is an all rounder and would like to hear more opinions to support this. Dreading the idea of buyers remorse.

probably only worthwhile if you shoot a lot of sports or action

I don't use the 7D mk2 for sports. I use mine for Birding (BIF) and Wildlife. I also use my 70D for the same. The 7D mk2 is a better camera in terms of AF then the 70D, it tracks better.

I don't do portraits or landscape with the 70D or the 7D mk2 so I can't answer that question. I use my 6D for those.

You'll find more (or a higher percentage of) 7D Mark II users in the Canon EOS 7D / 10D - 80D Talk forum. Maybe even some who upgraded to it from a 60D.

I can't imagine the 7D Mark II would do any worse than the 60D, in anything. It's miles ahead in some areas, like autofocus and burst shooting, and at least equal at anything else. There may not be an improvement in certain things, but it won't be worse. Only thing it's lacking is the articulated screen you have in the 60D.

Read the full review if you haven't already. Never buy a camera before you do so. (Doesn't have to be in this website, of course, at least if DPReview hadn't reviewed the camera you're interested in.) Canon EOS 7D Mark II Review: Digital Photography Review

I have bought the 7D mark ii a bit more then 2 months ago before i had a canon 100d and lenses are still the same

I bought the 70D for the articulated screen and wifi functions and it felt a bit like a step ( a lettle bit only) so i returned it and had a really long thought about it, and then i slwent for it i pulled out 800$ more to buy the 7d ii and it was quite a impact on my wallet but man o man !

This is such a difference, the 7D ii catapulted my love for photography to new heights

i liked taking pictures in a more documenting way for myself, now i never have a exuse if things go wrong, there is something very fisical and manichal that the 7d has that the 70d missed, and it motivates me to push it to get the perfect shot i have in my mind

even though the specs seems not to far apart and loads of reviews seem to corfirm this, i coulnd't be happier

I am using it a lot for sports and via my kids involvement in sports. As a result, I am asked to more event stuff. I am not a professional and I am happy just to capture the moments to share with the team players. I'm using an EF 75-300mm 4-5,6 which I bought as part of a bundle with a refurbished canon 400d (about 10 years old), and the results are fine with the 60d. I'll probably add 70-200mm F/4 Lens to the equation. Lends tend not to lose their value, so in time I might trade that up for a 2.8. An expensive hobby, but passions should be indulged.

Thanks Steve. I am sure the move to full frame has been debated to death here. but did you find much of step up (wow factor) moving to full frame?

Thanks. I tend to do plenty of research before buying but I hadn't read the dp review despite posting the question on the forum.

I stay out of the full frame debates. I find the colors are just better. Before getting the 6D, I used a 5D for years and loved it for the same reason, the colors are just better. Also my lenses are all EF types, don't own any EF-S. Reality is that it's a personal choice, any modern camera is capable of taking great shots in the right hands.

yes, ditch that 75-300 !

any version of the 70-200 is going to be a big improvement
