I'm looking for a "holster" style case to fit the 100-400 with a m4/3 camera attached. There are lots of them for larger DSLRs but I'm not finding one for the smaller body.

Two that are close are:

-OP/TECH USA 7801182 Snoot Boot Wide Body XXL. It is a lens bag, not a holster, but the opening holds the camera. It is long enough to leave the attachable lens hood on. It is inexpensive yet well made. I bought it in case I can't find better.

-B&H suggested the Vanguard Up-Rise II 15Z Zoom Camera Bag. I don't think it is deep enough to hold the lens and camera with the hood on.

Anybody find a solution they like a lot?

Thanks.

I just received the Lowepro Toploader Zoom 55 AW from ebay. It is perfect for my E-M5II and 100-400mm.

The quality is very good for $21.

And there's a reason for this: Because that is an very strange combination (ginormous lens and a tiny body) and therefore the number that would be sold simply doesn't justify the effort of designing and producing one.

I would just get the nearest Think Tank Digital Holster that would fit the lens and call it a day. I view the extra space around the body as a bonus so I have some room to reach past it and grab the rig by the lens to pull it out, which would be a much less drop-, slip-, or damage-prone way to do it than grabbing it by the body anyway.

Any lens that comes with a separate mounting collar is the manufacturer's way of telling you that the lens is too heavy to use the camera as the main load bearing point. If you choose to disregard that message, at best you'll be off balance on support, and at worst you'll warp the mount on the camera, if not tear it off altogether.

No, and that's why I'm using temporarily an old Albinar bag I have:

One reason I hesitate on a holster solution is that I think it will be easier to remove the camera/lens when in horizontal position, rather than vertical. I've used holsters in the past with shorter lenses, and sometimes even then, it's been a bit awkward. (I'm not very tall). But I'm open to finding a holster solution.

A bag also solves the problem of carrying a second camera with a 12-35mm mounted for wide scenes when out photographing wildlife. That could be accommodated in other ways, I suppose...

I asked the same question a couple of weeks ago, also for EM5.2, was recommended the Think Tank holster 10 v2, bought one (second hand on eBay, as it happens), and am now happily using it.

Doesn't seem ginormous to me. In fact, I think it is petite compared to the Nikanon versions I see on Yellowstone trips!

Thanks. I will look at Think Tank again.

I always thought the collar was to make balance easier on a tripod. Somehow I believe the camera mount has the strength. I've not seen any ever fall off!

Another vote for the Lowepro Toploader. It was designed for a DSLR but it's not so huge they shouldn't work for an M43 body. But it would be largish.

Embarrassingly I can't remember which size mine is, and it doesn't appear to be marked. But it's just large enough for a Canon 5D2 w/ 70-200/2.8 mounted. I can get it in there with the 300/4, but at that size it's starting to stress the top zipper.

Great bag. Lots of not in your way but handy pockets and a rain cover.
