Hi,

FYI: the price in Canada for the body only is going to be $2599 CAN according to the info from http://www.digitalreview.ca

I am a D100 shooter, however, I think the Pentax *ist D is an interesting camera. I expected it though to be a bit more competitively priced however, compared to the Canon 10D and the Nikon D100...

Rgds,

Bill

Hmm. Thats probably official price. I wonder what street price is. Plus what does that make it in US $? Also, does that include the lens, some european sites include the lens in the main advertised packages.

Thanks for the link Bill. I sure hope thats suggested retail, which would put street at a good discount to that. Even at that price, I'll bite.

That seems to be a little high, as the D100 and the 10D seem to be cheaper in that case. One would think that for Pentax to really make a cut in this segment, they have to be a little more aggressive on price, at least for the body.

$2599 Canadian is the SUGGESTED Retail Price - street price is almost always lower. (Exception - Canon 10D - Suggested is $1499 - CompUSA just lowered their prices to $1349.95)

I would like to see it come in around $1200 street (body only) or less, but I might be a tad low. :o(

Although the country has it's fair share of french people, I don't think Canada is considered part of Europe.....

I see your schwartz is as big as mine.

With a list price of approximately $1,865 (lets just say $1,900), I would think the street price would be right on par with a 10D (and cheaper than a D100).
That would be $1,865.82 US (using .7179 from todays paper)

Hey the Quebec area might as well be France, they're just as "friendly" as the French.

Some european sites, I think one was in Sweden, included the lens in their package.

I hope you were kidding about Canada being part of Europe!

No, the 10D originally came with a SUGGESTED Retail price of $1999, and a street price of $1499. See Phils original review.

Oops - my bad - thanks! (gotta get my eyes checked). If the Canon price is any indication then the *ist D should come in around $1300-$1400 body only...

Dave
No, the 10D originally came with a SUGGESTED Retail price of $1999,
and a street price of $1499. See Phils original review.

Actually people, we all knew from the beginning that the camera is supposed to be priced lower than the other DSLRs. In Europe, the body alone is always priced €100 lower than the 10D, and the body with the FAJ 18-35mm just €100 more than the 10D body alone.

I thought the suggested retail for the 10D was $1999.. with a so-called "street" price of $1499.

God, so would I. My wife cringed at my last $300 camera purchase. How am I going to swing this??? :-)

On this site the *ist D is only 50 Euros cheaper than the Fujifilm S2. At that price, I'd go for the S2 anytime. Image quality of the Pentax will be similar to the D100....

.....which although good, is NOWHERE near that of the S2.

Hmmm - if this is the price then a 10D will be my next camera afterall. I've been shooting both Canon and Pentax for the last several months, but Pentax might have just put the final nail in the coffin with that price.

Dave
Over at Michael Riechmann's site, he's listing official USA street
prices for the camera at $1,699 and the 18-35 lens at $1,899.
