Awww--happy puppy!

I love me some shepherds.

Cute shot!

Super cute!

I love happy puppy photos! This one is fantastic! Do you have custom settings and white balance set or is this straight awb? The water is so blue!

I used auto WB and warmed it up a little in LightRoom. The city dog park actually puts some blue colored biocide in water that makes the little ponds that color. That puppy was visiting the park for the first time and was super excited. He is a very sweet little guy.

PIF, Puppy In Flight! Well, Puppy On Take-Off, anyway. :-)

Woof!

I like dogs. Great companions. However, this shot lacks definition, is muddy and honestly a $6,000 body should not be producing results like this. The dog is really cute, I like that way you froze him but you should be able to see the hairs, the anomalies near his left side of the face, the blown highlights, the softness of it all.

This critique is NOT of YOU. It's just of the camera and a batch of them producing similar results.

@tvstaff and @Snapper2013 I posted the raw image (23.1 MB) on DropBox. Feel free to download, process and post your edits. I am always looking for ways to improve and welcome your thoughts and advice.

Hi Snapper,

It's not you! It's not the editing. It's not anything you can control. Happy to look at it. But I'm working with the same issues and feel for anyone who got a certain batch of the new 1DXMKII's.

Look at the shot, I can only wonder what "AISERVO" was thinking. The focus point is nowhere on the dog. "NOT YOUR FAULT". This is an issue, I've been having. Locked on, verified and then when editing I'll see my focus points are nowhere near where I placed them in single expanded, 9 point or zone focusing. Your focus point is below the dogs mouth... not on the dog. Part of the reason the dog's teeth are out of focus.

YOU did what you were supposed to do. The camera in AISERVO for "some reason" did not latch on to the dog.

And even at 2.8 his teeth should have been in focus.... When a camera is working properly with a dog or a model walking down the runway.... it locks on to your focus points and can be verified on the camera or in post. I'm havib=ng the same issue with my 1DXMKII. I'm locking on... getting verification... and then in post the shot is soft or OOF and the points are nowhere even near where I placed and locked on to. I've also included a Kitesurfing shot as an example of soft and OOF shots.

SOFT & OOF

Proper AISERVO Lock at 2.8

Although I have not seen your ooc results, the first photo, the man's highest foot looks like plastic with some strange patterning going on and there is absolutely no definition in his hair.

Can you drop box that photo?
