I hope you enjoy this one!

I think it's one of those hanging sun reflectors spinning really fast in the wind (1/13 sec shutter speed). But you've changed the orientaion. But I wouldn't bet any money on that guess! Cool image regardless.

I did change the orientation, but it's not a sun reflector in the wind. It was actually taken indoors!

So, it's a good projective test...like the Rorschach Ink blot tests! 😏

Guess the plant family. (Common names ok, is it a daisy, a tulip, a rose, ...) ?

Okay, time to come clean. It is Bear Grass, and the onion and asparagus guesses were very close. They all (bear grass, onion, asparagus) used to be considered in the Lilly family, but that family was busted up into several different families (botanists never tire at their taxonomic efforts). Now bear grass is in the "corn lilly family" MELANTHIACEAE

First time I saw it was in the Lilly family of families I thought it doesn't look like any lilly I ever saw!

Close!

Interesting theme...

Some kind ornaments??? Yes but made by "Mather Nature".

Perfect!!

That would have been a great entry! It's cool you were able to fill the whole frame since the side of the van is so large AND the pattern is pretty consistent throughout!

Thanks for posting!!!

I'm not too keen on flowering plants, or really plants in general!

Very unique species! My guess would have been a tulip! With that conifer in the background, you could almost mistake the bud on the top as a pine cone?

Some Geometric shapes!!

Looks like I'm staring from above, at an ancient ruin or temple, with the four pillars in the corner!
It does have that perspective, but it's vertical.

Even though you called it a barn quilt, I was suspecting it to be on an actual barn!!

Nice shot, looks like some great country!
It's in the pretty Sawtooth National Forest in Idaho.

So this resembles a quilt but with the background I would have to say a stained glass?

Pretty cool, I like 3D cross in the center!
Yes, a quilt my late wife made. It is very 3d!
Isn't it! She did well!

I suppose there've been enough guesses. It's a spinning string sculpture at the contemporary art museum in Sydney, Australia.

As I recall, it was easily 36 inches long, perhaps longer. I took it a few years ago (2013), and I remember the guide we were with was totally amazed at how the photo came out. The little Sony RX100 1 was a great traveling companion on that trip.

It was a wonderful museum. http://www.mca.com.au/

Australia and New Zealand are so worth seeing...it's just a very long way to get there.

Feel free to add comments or post here, it won't be missed, but a new thread has been started to carry-over all entries and exhibits! Keep up the good work!!

Here's the link to the continued thread....

Original description and guidelines below:
Mini-Challenge #421: In Disguise.

Begins now, ends at 11:00 AM CST, on Sunday, June 12th, 2016!

After collaborating with my wife and kids, and reviewing all the themes from the last year, I finally came up with the "In Disguise" theme!!

This theme includes any picture from any camera with any subject matter and any lighting but must meet this one requirement: the photo cannot be recognized! These will be pictures that look like something totally different than the intended subject matter; either by surprise or intentional! An intentional example at the bottom. I will post a 'by surprise' photo later, if I can find one!

I'll be judging by how different and unique your photo is compared to the accidental or intended subject matter! If you have two pictures, you can post them; if not, an explanation will be fine!

Stories are great: where, when, how? Learning other’s methods is both helpful and fun. With the pop-up exif data, and comments, at the end we will have a nice collection of photos and information that anyone can hover over to learn what worked.

Guidelines: (many words for clarity, but it is easy)

1. Submit Entries to Win (3 maximum); and/or Exhibits (unlimited). Photos taken by you, using any camera, any time.

2. Clarify, in the Header of your post: Entry or Exhibit. If not labeled but meant to be an entry: if you forgot, you can clarify it yourself as an entry later, or, it will be considered an Exhibit.

3. To post images: Reply to a Post from the Host: this initial post, or any subsequent post from the host, ‘OP’ (original poster) will be seen in the Header of any post by the host.

4. To post comments: a big part of the fun of these: reply either to the host, or reply to any forum member’s post as desired.

a. ‘Reply’ opens a new blank window, (always indicating whom you are replying to). Write text, insert images, paste internet links, ….,

b. ‘Reply with Quote’ opens a window with all prior text and images intact. You add what you want, where you want. You can delete any of the original material, keeping only what you want shown.

5. End of Mini-Challenge: Results

a. Host declares the mini-challenge ‘ended’ in the original Thread.

b. Host starts a new Separate RESULTS Thread: format like this so they look alike:
***Mini-Challenge #(???)*** (theme name): RESULTS.

c. Host selects and announces 1, 2, 3 place (from only the Entries).

d. Host optionally picks Honorable Mentions, (from Entries or Exhibits).

e. Please include a copy of at least the last 10 themes in the results thread for the new host to view!

6. New Mini-Challenge

a.
1st Place becomes the Host of the Next Mini-Challenge. If 1 place declines for some reason, #2 becomes the next Host (or #3 if needed).

b. New Host picks a theme, start time, and end time (typically 1 week, some longer)

c. New Host starts a New Mini-Challenge Thread, this format:
***Mini-Challenge #(next number)*** NEW THEME NAME

d. Describe the Theme, Post a few example photos.

e. Cut and paste the guidelines from here to the new thread.

Here's an example of an actual photo, intentional with no PP:

Looks like Brain Coral but it's actually some type of fungus mushroom!

And here's what it actually looks like...

Just a mushroom!
