I am new to digital photography and I've narrowed my choices for my first digital camera to the C-750 and the 5400. I will be taking pictures of wildlife, flowers, scenery and just the usual family type pictures. I really like the idea of the 10X zoom but I would be willing to purchase a 2X telephoto lens for the Nikon thus giving me an optical zoom of 8X. I've been over the specs a millon times but as I said I'm a newbe. Please give your reccomendations.

Well,

If you are interested in long zooms, try the CP-5700. It's got an 8x that had ED glass (minimizes purple fringing on very high contrast scenes). I have both cameras and I use the CP-5400 for mostly outdoor and scenery photos. I'm going to try it out at Disney World this year. There is going to be a new fireworks show at the Magic Kingdom in October so tha will give me a chance to see how the 5400 works taking those types of photos.

Cheers!

Hi Cliff,

Out of curiosity, between the colors of 57k and 54k, which one do you prefer? My opinion is that while 54k is largely more accurate (hate the reproduction of greening-blue though) but the 57k is more welcoming.

I haven't done too mucn with the 5400 yet (it's too hot in Las Vegas, NV) but we are planning to go to Joshua Tree National Park for Labor Day. I'll get a chance to put it throught it's paces. The color issue is not one that I really care about. Since both of them are quite neutral, a profile for the cameras will take care of any slight tinting that might be present. I'll know more after Labor Day.

Cheers!

For the love of my life, I swear I've never thought of using a color profile!!! And all this while I'm trying to "trick" the 5400's WB... thanks for the pointer :)
